About the role

The Category Delivery Senior Advisor delivers a specific category in to a region / asset and is based in that region / asset. They ensure category activities, across the region / asset are aligned to the categories and procurements strategic objectives, as well as the regions / assets strategic business priorities.

They work with the global category team to deliver their regions / assets priorities, balancing business needs with category plans ensuring they are in alignment.

They are the primary point of contact for suppliers to that category in their region and partner, collaborate, develop and support management of relationships with them, ensuring local needs are met. They also work with their peers across procurement to understand and share best practice and bring it to their region / asset, making their category more efficient and effective.

They have a deep understanding of and partner with the business to gather demand and challenge the business, where necessary, in order to deliver step changes in 3rd party spend by applying innovative solutions and change management. They have good commercial savvy to help in delivering secure optimal, compliant, and competitive, risk-managed category outcomes.

The primary sub-category focus will be Marine (offshore support vessels), Aviation (offshore people movement), Supply Base and Fuel (marine gas oil) in support of the Logistics Services Team, within bp Solutions. Annual spend ~USD 200m.

What you will deliver

Category delivery in region / asset:

  • Delivers category performance to the region / asset that meet or exceeds relevant metrics, including those for safety and compliance.

  • Delivers regional needs whilst also aligning to category plans – Consolidates demand plans for the business, working with their wider category team to ensure category plans are aligned. Understands the local commercial landscape and market factors.

  • Undertakes supplier performance management or interventions, calling out to the relevant business partners, as needed, to ensure timely resolution and prevent leakage.

  • Advocates for opportunities to partner, collaborate, develop, and strengthen relationships with our contractors and suppliers

  • Unlocks value in line with category management policy

Team integration:

  • Collaborates across procurement (including FB&T procurement), with the business and, where appropriate, with suppliers to create a one team mentality

  • Builds region / asset knowledge across their category team to ensure delivery of their objectives

  • Develops their technical capabilities and accelerator skills

  • Embraces psychological safety, and bp values, as a foundation for collaborative learning, ideation and innovation

  • Follows bp\’s Code of Conduct (CoC), policies and procedures to ensure compliance, role models bps Who We Are expectations

Supplier & Stakeholder Management:

  • Influences through complexity and ambiguity, managing virtual relationships with stakeholders in multi-discipline, multi-cultural environments?

  • Builds good relationships, bringing market insights and championing supplier value whilst taking time to understand business needs.

  • Builds relationships with the procurement teams globally, understanding feedback and proactively working to build procurements reputation and return on investment

  • Maintains close connectivity with FB&T ensuring appropriate prioritization and resourcing

Transformation and Change Management:

  • Employs digital solutions to drive innovation, enhancing efficiency, effectiveness and value creation

  • Partners with other internal procurement teams to drive category excellence

  • Use influencing, storytelling and communication to encourage adoption

  • Delivers modernization & transformation activities, leading optimization of regional procurement category delivery aligned to the broader procurement and business transformation agendas

What you will need to be successful

Essential education:

  • Degree educated – something related to Procurement preferred – or equivalent relevant professional experience

  • Post graduate qualification related to procurement desirable

Essential experience & job requirements:

Functional knowledge:

  • Must have an understanding of and be adept at developing and maintaining business context including an understanding of strategic direction, priorities.

  • Knowledge of category management principles

  • Knowledge of category their category

  • An understanding of how to ensure strategies flow through to execution in regions / assets

  • Ability to develop a quick understanding of business objectives and harmonise it with category strategies

Business expertise:

  • Good stakeholder management and influencing skills in order to develop a deep understanding of the supported businesses / regions / assets and their priorities, including long term objectives.

  • Critical thinking and commercial savvy

  • An understanding of working in and navigating complex multi-national businesses

  • Track record in collaborating with businesses / partners to deliver continuous improvement

Leadership:

  • An SME, who shares knowledge with the wider team and drives delivery of business and procurement priorities. Collaborates across their category, the businesses, suppliers and beyond to achieve their regions / assets goals.

  • Experience in leading initiatives internationally, recognizing cultural nuances, analyzing data-driven trends & insights, and employing agile/flexible approaches

  • An advocate for our code, they incorporate the Operating Management System (OMS) and our safety leadership principles into strategies and everyday work

Problem solving:

  • The role requires the ability to partner with the business to develop innovative solutions, clearing blockers and enabling delivery. It also requires judgement to translate business requirements into a demand plan.

  • Embraces industry challenges and technological disruption, pioneers innovative solutions whilst managing risk

  • Brings multiple parties (procurement, business, suppliers) together to collaboratively solve complex problems

  • Manages conflict to successful resolution while maintaining relationships with key stakeholders

  • The ability to evaluate innovative solutions and manage risk

  • Good judgement in order to translate business requirements into a strategic delivery plan, aligned with the category strategy, to inform strategic decisions

Interpersonal skills:

  • The role demands strong people skills to engage with diverse team members.

  • Strong senior stakeholder networking and influencing skills to ensure agreement and adoption, building a reputation as a strategic partner to the regions / sites / assets

  • Experience in regular interaction with external suppliers and representing bp externally

  • Effective change management is key, requiring good influencing, engagement and storytelling abilities

Desirable skills & experience:

  • Experience of North Sea Oil and Gas logistics operations and procurement.

  • MCIPS, or studying towards the CIPS accreditation.
