The Workplace team are accountable for managing the end-to-end property lifecycle for bps corporate office portfolio. Operating in 50 plus countries and over 100 diverse locations, the team are central to the transformation of the workplace experience and the associated services. The team has an ambitious transformation agenda across our key locations. The Senior Manager of Capital Projects and Design leads and mentors a globally dispersed team. You'll be the senior technical expert with end-to-end accountability of global Capital Projects and Design, accountable for consistent global project and design delivery, resource planning and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to a high-quality level. You'll provide strategic expertise, market and industry insights across the office and portfolios, aligning with bps business objectives.
Key Accountabilities:
- Global subject matter expert on capital projects, design processes and delivery to strategically enhance financial and non-financial value that meets business objectives.
- Interacts with global and regional customers to initially develop and then deliver the annual capital frame spend from up to $250m in a consistent manner, leading proactive risk identification, scenario planning, and mitigation strategies.
- Develop future leaders, implement succession planning, and foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the dispersed team of project and design managers.
- Ensure that our design philosophy, standards and product frameworks evolve in line with the changing needs of our business based on optimising space utilisation, enhancing employee engagement, productivity, safety and sustainability.
- Improve standards, processes, tools, and targets to drive continuous improvement in the project lifecycle.
- Use industry standards and implement lessons learned from past project reviews.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships and performance with key suppliers to create long-term value and deep understanding of bp standards and culture.
- Uphold governance, assurance, and compliance standards, ensuring adherence to bps operating procedures, risk protocols, and HSSE requirements.
- Prepare and deliver regular updates to the GPMO on project pipeline, timeline, budget status, and risk status/mitigations.
Essential education and experience:
- A minimum of a master's degree or equivalent experience preferred in one of the following fields: Project Management, Construction Management, Architecture, or Engineering.
- Relevant industry professional qualification (PMP or APM).
- Professional certifications Member of RICS (MRICS) or Fellow of RICS (FRICS) preferred.
- Significant number of years experience delivering global capital projects and designs across multiple countries and cultures.
- Track record of managing budgets ranging from USD $50,000 to $250 million.
- Proven experience in a similar client-side role within a Workplace organisation.
- Global exposure and strong cultural awareness to manage and motivate a dispersed team, setting strategic vision and guidance for successful delivery.
- Strong technical knowledge of construction industry standards, building codes and best-in-class practices, with the ability to apply them across diverse project contexts.
- Strong experience with supporting the design visioning in large projects that reinforce bp's brand, culture, and employee experience.
- Ensure delivery aligns with business requirements and industry standards.
- Strong experience in managing technical due diligence on upcoming projects, ensuring relevant stakeholders participate and leverage outcomes in the lease negotiation.
- Holistic understanding of the full Workplace lifecycle, with a passion for identifying dependencies amongst the various functions in projects and design, solving complexities, and aligning governance with business priorities.
It would be helpful but not essential to also have:
- Experience in achieving results in diverse cultures and drives an inquisitive yet respectful approach whilst promoting innovation and continuous improvement.
- Skilled in analyzing performance data, setting targets, and driving continuous improvement through structured problem-solving and proactive risk mitigation.
