We are seeking an experienced Global Head of HSSE to lead one of the most critical leadership agendas across Castrol's international operations. Spanning manufacturing, laboratories, logistics, supply chain and commercial activities, this role will drive a step change in operational performance, strengthen organisational resilience and safeguard Castrol's licence to operate across a global footprint.

Reporting to the Vice President, Supply Chain, this role sits at the heart of Castrol's operational leadership agenda and provides significant visibility and influence across the global organisation. Leading a global HSSE team, you will partner closely with business, manufacturing and supply chain leaders to embed HSSE into daily operations, build capability and accountability at every level, and ensure the highest standards of safety, environmental stewardship, security and compliance.

This is an opportunity for a visible and credible leader who combines strategic vision with advanced operational experience and can translate risk management into tangible business outcomes across a sophisticated, multi-site global footprint. The role will be based in Central London on a hybrid working model and will require regular international travel across global operations.

What You'll Be Accountable For

  • Providing strong leadership and governance of the global HSSE function across Castrol.
  • Driving measurable improvement in HSSE performance across all operational sites, including the reduction of actual and potential high-consequence safety, environmental and security events.
  • Embedding a culture of HSSE into daily operations, ensuring site leaders are accountable for safety, environmental stewardship, security and execution consistency.
  • Translating HSSE strategy into practical site-level execution, including control of work, maintenance rigor, contractor management, process safety and environmental controls.
  • Owning regulatory compliance and licence to operate across all geographies, ensuring adherence to legal requirements, permits and certifications.
  • Owning safety standards and processes delivered through Castrol's Operating Management System.
  • Ensuring environmental risks are actively managed across operations, including emissions, waste, spills and site compliance obligations.
  • Leading security, crisis management and business continuity capabilities to protect people, assets and operations.
  • Improving operational resilience through prevention, preparedness and effective incident response across HSSE domains.
  • Leading assurance, audit and performance review processes, ensuring robust visibility of risk and compliance status.
  • Partnering with supply chain and manufacturing leaders to optimise safety, cost, service and risk trade-offs without compromising licence to operate.
  • Building HSSE capability across the organisation and embedding ownership beyond the functional team into operations.

What We're Looking For

  • To succeed in this role, you'll bring a combination of strategic leadership, operational credibility and the ability to influence across a global organisation.
  • Deep understanding of manufacturing and supply chain operations, with ability to embed safety, environmental and security requirements into execution.
  • Strong ownership of regulatory compliance, permits, environmental obligations and certification requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Ability to link HSSE to operational outcomes such as reliability, continuity and cost performance.
  • Ability to convert HSSE risks (safety, environmental, security) into practical operational controls and behaviours.
  • Experience leading crisis management, business continuity and security risk in complex environments.
  • Credibility and confidence to challenge operational leaders on safety, environmental and compliance standards.
  • Visible leadership presence in plants, logistics operations and technical environments.
  • Ability to manage interconnected risks across safety, environment, security and compliance domains.
  • Develop leadership capability across operations, embedding HSSE accountability at all levels.

Experience

  • Senior HSSE or operations leadership experience in complex, multi-site global manufacturing or industrial organisations.
  • Track record of improving safety, environmental performance and regulatory compliance simultaneously.
  • Direct experience managing licences, permits and regulatory relationships in highly regulated jurisdictions.
  • Experience leading security, crisis management or business continuity functions.
  • Strong operational background, ideally with exposure to plant, maintenance or supply chain environments.
  • Experience operating in matrixed organisations and influencing senior leadership.
  • University degree (or equivalent work experience), preferably in a technical field.
  • Formal HSSE qualification or postgraduate degree in Health, Safety or Environmental fields desirable.
  • Formal leadership qualification desirable.

Leadership Profile

  • Visible, credible leader in operational environments.
  • Balances strategic oversight with hands‑on operational engagement.
  • Drives accountability for safety, security, environmental performance and compliance.
  • Ability to navigate trade‑offs between operational delivery and risk management.
  • Acts decisively and effectively in crisis and high‑risk situations.

Relevant Backgrounds May Include

  • We welcome applications from leaders with experience across HSSE, HSE, EHS, SHE, SHEQ or HSEQ fields, as well as those with broader operational leadership experience gained within manufacturing, chemicals, lubricants, industrial operations, energy, FMCG, logistics or supply chain environments.
  • Candidates may currently be operating at Global Head, Director, Senior Director, Vice President or equivalent leadership level and will bring a track record of driving operational performance, managing risk and leading organisational change across complex, multi‑site environments.
