We are looking for a Cargo Assurance Expert Jet to join our Supply, Trading & Shipping (ST&S) team as we strive to transform and connect the global energy market. This a chance to be part of a team of global experts driving cargo integrity across bp’s jet and biofuel supply chain. As a Cargo Assurance Expert, you’ll help shape industry standards and safeguard product quality at the heart of energy logistics.

You will play a key role in protecting value and ensuring the safe, efficient movement of cargoes. The role is responsible for minimising cargo losses, preventing quality degradation, conducting cargo inspector HSE audits, and handling other assurance activities.

The Cargo Assurance team are recognised industry authorities in hydrocarbon and biofuel quality and quantity management. We serve as the focal point for quality and quantity queries, responsible for minimising cargo losses, product quality, acting as a point of accountability for associated legislation and industry standards, conducting cargo inspector HSE audits, and addressing other related issues.

The team also has a broader global role in providing advice and assurance on the suitability and efficiency of transportation, storage, and refining assets — including Global LNG facilities — that ST&S RPTE currently use or may use in the future.

Working closely with various functions and teams, you will support bp’s end-to-end jet business by providing inland jet supply chain and terminal expertise. This is a meaningful role in maintaining product quality, minimising operational losses, ensuring compliant, safe, reliable operations across bp’s global network.

This role will be based in 25 North Colonnade, Canary Wharf with regular travel to Isle of Grain or other sites.

Key Responsibilities:

Terminal Operations – Isle of Grain (IoG) and OIKOS
You will lead and coordinate day-to-day operational activities at bp’s terminal at Isle of Grain and our leased terminal at OIKOS to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations.

  • Schedule product movements for blending of both SAF and Jet
  • Provide the terminal with tank plans for discharge, blending, and export
  • Issue sampling and testing instructions
  • Liaise with R&AFT on product quality waivers for non-compliant processes/product
  • Support IoG staff in tracing jet and bio product movements to ensure compliance with regulations
  • Coordinate with IoG Operations on tank maintenance scheduling to ensure safe and commercial operations
  • Liaise directly with Aviation and/or ST&S customers regarding SAF orders, ensuring correct blends are in the right tanks to meet demand

Commercial and Partner Engagement
You will work closely with internal and external partners to optimise cargo planning, support new business, and uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance.

  • Collaborate with traders and trading operators to optimise cargo planning and blending
  • Support trading operators in sophisticated operational scenarios, encouraging open communication and sharing findings with the wider operations community
  • Support the bench on new business activity (including NAIs) through regular engagement with front office, functions, and 3rd parties
  • Conduct root cause analysis-based incident reporting and risk management as required
  • Develop inspection quality standards and guidelines where vital, maintaining “R” standards internally and collaborating closely with regional teams
  • Provide HSE and competence assessments of 3rd-party contractors within the Operational Management System (OMS)
  • Collaborate with industry peers to produce international standards for cargo inspection under the Energy Institute and American Petroleum Institute
  • Initiate and deliver Cargo Assurance training programmes, arranging regional training, mentoring, and coaching (Lab Course, REACH, CA VTA, Ops Course, Measurement Course)
  • Audit 3rd-party Inspection, Superintendent, and Additive contractors using bp standards (RIICS, REX, RADDS, open sampling, and additivisation) to ensure safe operations

Functional Leadership and Capability Development
You will act as a technical authority, driving functional excellence, building team capability, and representing bp in industry forums.

  • Provide technical advice and guidance to the leadership team on complex technical issues
  • Share the best processes and promote the latest tools, systems, and techniques
  • Use expertise to challenge and help shape policies and procedures internally and at industry level
  • Lead or participate in special projects to address business priorities
  • Assist the team leader with recruitment activities
  • Develop technical competence across the team through coaching, mentoring, and formal training delivery
  • Ensure technical information is available and maintained on SharePoint
  • Actively contribute to professional networks (e.g., CoPs) and respond to requests from other business units
  • Draft agreements with third parties
  • Represent ST&S at major industry conferences and influence technical/functional experts within bp and other organisations

Essential Experience Required:

  • Practical background in oil analysis and testing procedures
  • Strong operational and commercial awareness
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with experience engaging partners at all levels
  • An ability to work effectively across diverse cultures and demonstrate creativity in problem-solving
  • Team player in a small, specialist environment with broad, cross-functional expertise

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in physical trading and operations, refinery knowledge, contracts, shipping, and cargo assurance
  • A record in driving performance, making informed decisions, and fostering collaboration
