Provides direct care for at-risk youth in a safe and caring family-style living environment. This position guides and teaches youth on appropriate skills and behaviours, and provides moral, spiritual, and educational development for future success.
Afternoon/Evening Hours, rotating weekends. Evening meals provided! $22-24/hour to start.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:- Provides safe and effective services.
- Adheres to policies related to safety and boundaries with service recipients.
- Attends safety and abuse risk management training as assigned.
- Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising service recipients.
- Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviours and policy violations.
- Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
- Provides direct care to children.
- Serves as an active member of the family home program team; participates in measuring progress and providing input on goals and discharge planning.
- Collaborates with courts, social agencies, parents, school personnel, and other members of the program about youth's behaviours and progress, as well as strategies for teaching.
- Adheres to reporting guidelines.
- Assesses and monitors youth skills and progress to determine skill development needs and priorities.
- Uses Boys Town teaching model by describing, practicing, and providing rationales for the use of appropriate skills/behaviours, as well as describing and addressing negative behaviours.
- Serves as a role model for youth by exhibiting skills taught in the program.
- Monitors, supports, and encourages academic performance and educational success (e.g., good study habits, quality of work, higher education, etc.).
- Attends school conferences, communicates with educational staff, and builds effective working relationships to meet youth's academic needs.
- Teaches and models Boys Town values, including moral and ethical behaviours and obeys the law.
- Supports, attends, and participates in religious services, conferences, community service projects, and other activities with youth, discussing their relevance to daily life.
- Maintains a family-style model by providing emotional support, praise, positive feedback, individualised attention, and empathy to build self-confidence and respect.
- Uses rational problem-solving techniques to teach critical thinking and behavioural skills.
- Monitors off-campus activities and observes youth interactions during home, recreational, and leisure times for safety and skill development.
- Adheres to all child safety policies and protocols, including reporting guidelines and behavioural management.
- Provides crisis intervention, which may include physical restraint.
- Plans and provides opportunities for individual and family activities that are entertaining and educational.
- Models and teaches parenting, family, and relationship skills to youth, guardians, and caretakers.
- Nurtures and cares for youth who are ill or need medical assistance.
- Provides transportation for youth as needed.
- Monitors environment for safety and security.
- Ensures safety in accordance with policies, including youth safety, outings, and reporting guidelines.
- Maintains appropriate household spending and budgeting.
- Prepares and submits reimbursement documentation.
- Assists with home maintenance needs.
- Maintains contact with consumers for information, scheduling, and coordination.
- Attends and appears in court as needed.
- Prepares youth progress reports.
- Writes incident and behaviour summaries.
- Tracks and communicates youth medical needs and appointments.
- Florida Only: Provides Behavioral Health Overlay Services (BHOS) and completes billing documentation as assigned.
- Ability and desire to work and live with youth.
- Willingness to work flexible hours.
- Sound judgment and maturity in working with children.
- Knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care.
- Excellent communication skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 21 years of age.
- Valid driver's licence with a good record.
- Pass annual Motor Vehicle Registration check.
- Some college credits preferred.
