About Boys' and Girls' Clubs of Wales: Boys' and Girls' Clubs of Wales is a national youth organisation supporting a network of community-based clubs across Wales. We work with volunteers, youth workers, and young people to provide safe spaces, positive activities, leadership opportunities, and pathways for personal development. We are looking for a passionate and committed youth worker who thrives on making a difference in communities, supporting young people to reach their potential, and working alongside volunteers to strengthen local clubs. This is initially a six-month probationary role, giving the post-holder the opportunity to demonstrate their skills, commitment, and impact. Subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability, there may be the possibility of extending the role beyond the probation period.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Curriculum Development and Attainment: Develop and deliver high-quality informal education curriculum across member clubs. Support evening club sessions to ensure curriculum activities are engaging, inclusive, and relevant to local communities. Work with club leaders and volunteers to build confidence and capacity in delivering curriculum activities. Monitor, evaluate, and record outcomes and attainment, using data to demonstrate impact and inform future planning. Maintain accurate records of curriculum delivery and attainment using the organisation's systems.
  • Young Leaders Programme: Support the delivery of the Young Leaders programme in partnership with the Youth Participation Officer. Organise and attend regular meetings and activities, including monthly sessions. Support young people to develop leadership skills, confidence, and a sense of responsibility within their clubs and communities. Encourage progression, participation, and positive community involvement among young leaders.
  • Youth Exchange Programmes: Lead and support funded youth exchange programmes, including residential activities and travel. Assist with planning, coordination, and delivery of exchange opportunities to ensure safe, meaningful, and well-managed experiences for young people. Work flexibly to support residential visits, travel, and related preparation and follow-up activity.
  • Community and Volunteer Development: Build strong relationships with clubs, volunteers, young people, and local communities. Support volunteers through mentoring, guidance, and access to training and accreditation opportunities. Coordinate and process all Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks for volunteers in clubs, ensuring compliance with safeguarding and organisational policies. Promote volunteer development as a way to strengthen clubs and support long-term sustainability. Identify community needs, strengths, and challenges, and feed this information back to BGC Wales to inform organisational planning.
  • Membership & Curriculum Sub-Committee Support: Act as the main contact for the Sub-Committee, supporting four meetings per year. Prepare agendas, take and circulate accurate minutes, and follow up on actions. Encourage club leaders to attend and engage, helping strengthen the network.
  • Wider BGC Wales Contribution: Contribution to BGC Wales Youth Quality Grade: Strengthen structured, inclusive, and youth-led practice across clubs by evidencing learning and participation, building leadership capacity, and supporting safe, high-quality engagement pathways. Contribute to the wider work of BGC Wales, including events, training, and organisational initiatives. Work collaboratively with colleagues, including Sport Development and Youth Participation staff, to ensure a joined-up approach. Promote BGC Wales projects and opportunities through appropriate communication channels, including social media.

Person Specification

  • Essential: JNC Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work (or working towards). Experience working with young people aged 11–25. Experience of community-based youth work or community development. Experience supporting and working with volunteers. Experience of working as part of a project or programme team. Passionate about youth work and committed to making a positive difference in communities. Motivated to support volunteers and young people to develop skills, confidence, and leadership. Confident using digital systems and platforms for communication, administration, and reporting. Competent in using cloud-based tools for document management, email, and collaboration (e.g., Google Workspace or Microsoft Office). Ability to use social media platforms to communicate, promote activities, and engage young people and volunteers. Strong organisational, administrative, and time-management skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Full driving licence and access to a vehicle. Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and occasional residentials. Enhanced DBS check.
  • Desirable: Degree or nationally recognised qualification in youth work (or equivalent). Knowledge of the work of Boys' and Girls' Clubs of Wales. Knowledge of Welsh Government's National Youth Work Strategy for Wales. Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and/or Google Workspace. Experience using Mailchimp, Canva, or a management information system (MIS). Experience using social media strategically to promote programmes or engage communities. Ability to communicate in Welsh, or willingness to learn. Mental Health First Aid qualification. D1 and/or PCV licence.
