Conducts advanced thermal related product development activities and research and helps train new engineers and technicians.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Heat Transfer: Demonstrates an intimate understanding of conduction and convection heat transfer. Additional experience with two‑phase heat transfer is a plus.
- Thermal Systems Understanding: Has an understanding of two‑phase system operation and performance prediction. Example applications include heat pipes, vapor chambers, thermosiphons, and/or refrigeration systems.
- Solid Modeling: Average to proficient at designing products with an approved solid modeling program and creating properly dimensioned drawings.
- CFD Analysis: Average to proficient at CFD analysis using one or more approved programs such as Flotherm or Icepak.
- Experimentation: Able to design experiments and test prototypes. Demonstrates a hands‑on approach to work in the lab and can work with technicians to build and test prototypes.
- Technical Writing and Reporting: Skilled at independently writing technical reports, proposals, journal papers, and/or technical articles. Good writing and presentation skills are essential.
- Sales Support: Supports sales through proposal writing, conducting analysis, and generating solutions to customers’ requirements, preparing datasheets, customer visits, and cost/bid supporting information.

Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Engineering with no experience needed. A Master’s degree (M.S. or M.E.) and/or a Ph.D. in Engineering with specialization in heat transfer or a subject area of the thermal sciences is a plus.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write technical papers involving original or innovative ideas. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics to senior management, engineers, customers, and/or public groups.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, algebra, and statistical theory.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and listen. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to use a computer, operate test equipment, and/or build prototype units. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and color vision, as well as the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Attire is business casual. Steel‑toed (or equivalent) shoes and safety glasses are required in the lab and production areas.
