The R&D Engineering role is focused on the development and qualification of novel electronics cooling solutions for thermal management of next generation hi-tech applications, primarily targeted at the space sector. The role offers a broad scope of development of interdisciplinary skills. The main focus is on thermal and mechanical design, but it also provides the opportunity to expand skills in testing, test equipment design, and manufacturing equipment design.
Specific Duties
- Responsible for the generation of thermal management solutions to customer’s requirements, potentially with the benefits of CFD analysis.
- Managing individual projects allocated, which involves creating engineering designs using 3D modelling and 2D drawings.
- Raising PO Requests for materials and equipment, and subsequent responsibility for the prototype build and test.
- Development of test plans and lab-based practical completion of prototype tests.
- Development of test rig 3D CAD designs, construction, and commissioning of the test equipment.
- Liaising with Production/Manufacturing Engineering to ensure best practices are followed in the development of new manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Working with and supporting the Sales Department function.
- Working with due regard to Health and Safety requirements.
- Ensuring that 5S housekeeping targets are achieved in areas of control.
- Supporting the Advanced Technology Group Engineering function when other Engineers are not available.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering is desirable but not essential.
- Suitable industrial experience in line with the role would equally be considered.
Experience
- Up to 3 to 4 years engineering experience in a design, development, and manufacturing environment.
- An inquisitive mind with a passion for research and development.
- Familiar with the use of CAD to generate 3D models and 2D drawings.
- Familiar with electronics thermal management technology.
