Job Title: CNC Machinist - Programmer Responsible to: Engineering Manager Job Description The post holder will be responsible for the following duties: Liaise with the manufacturing leadership daily to ensure you have full understanding of the production requirements. Work within a manufacturing team to ensure all aspects of machine setting and operation are carried out efficiently, and machines are utilised effectively. Take full ownership of all aspects of the CNC machine setup including tooling build, work holding loading / alignment and datum setting, program transfer to the machine, followed by full prove out of component parts programs. Provide support for manufacturing team by diagnosing issues and fault-finding NC programs as required, either at the machine console or using Mastercam / Hypermill CAM software. Provide support for engineering team by creating NC programs as required, either at the machine console or using Mastercam / Hypermill CAM software. Problem-solve the machining process and make necessary machine and/or program adjustments to ensure parts conform to specification. Provide support to a team of operators and apprentices by providing knowledge, experience and troubleshooting advice. In the absence of the production supervisor, assist in allocating tasks to a team of operators as and when required. Assist in providing the necessary on the job training to help upskill and develop the team. Fully inspect components to ensure they meet the customer requirements using precision measuring equipment. Complete paperwork including job cards, set-up sheets, and NCRs when necessary. Ensure the engineering databases are kept up to date with the latest revision of electronic data including NC programs and other essential information. Compliance with, implementation of, and contribution to improving relevant quality standards. Comply with and ensure good housekeeping and Health and Safety standards / legislation are adhered to ensuring all allocated machinery is running efficiently and safely and contribute to improvements. Carry out and participate in relevant training as required. Participation in and contribution towards continuous improvement activities. Must be flexible to meet company demands throughout the year including working additional overtime when required (including Fridays / weekends) Any other reasonable duties as required by the Management team. Job Specification Essential Criteria Extensive, proven experience in the setting and operation of 3 and 5 axis CNC machines (minimum 7 years) Proven experience with Heidenhain machine controls (minimum 2 years) Proven experience with either Mastercam or Hypermill CAM software (minimum 2 years) Be able to read and interpret engineering drawings competently. Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proven machining related problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills. Ability to work on own initiative as well as within a team environment. Desirable Criteria At least HNC / HND or similar qualification in a mechanical engineering or equivalent discipline.
