We’re excited to welcome an enthusiastic and dedicated Junior Sous Chef to our team at Boxcar Hyde Park. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong restaurant and café experience who thrives in a fast-paced brunch environment and is looking to grow within a creative kitchen. Working closely with our Senior Sous Chef, you’ll play a key role in the day-to-day running of a high-volume brunch venue while also gaining valuable exposure to the bakery side of the business. If you’re passionate about fresh food, seasonal ingredients, and delivering consistently high standards, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Assisting the Senior Sous Chef with daily kitchen operations.
  • Preparing and cooking brunch menu items to a consistently high standard.
  • Supporting ordering, stock rotation, and inventory management.
  • Maintaining excellent food hygiene, health, and safety standards.
  • Supervising and supporting junior chefs and kitchen porters.
  • Ensuring all kitchen sections remain clean, organised, and service-ready.
  • Monitoring food quality, presentation, and portion control.
  • Assisting with prep schedules and smooth service coordination during busy periods.
  • Contributing ideas for seasonal specials and menu development.
  • Helping minimise waste and maintain cost control targets.
  • Stepping into leadership responsibilities in the absence of senior chefs.
  • Learning and supporting the bakery side of the kitchen operation.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Have previous restaurant and café experience within a busy kitchen.
  • Be confident running a high-volume brunch service.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills.
