We’re growing our engineering team and looking for a Full Stack Software Engineer who enjoys solving real-world problems, working across a varied technology stack and taking ownership of products from concept through to deployment.
The opportunity:
- This is a hands-on role covering both frontend and backend development, with opportunities to contribute to Android applications, cloud infrastructure, hardware integrations and emerging AI projects.
- You’ll work closely with colleagues across engineering, product, operations and customer success to design, build and improve customer-facing products, internal tools and backend services.
- As part of a small, collaborative engineering team, you’ll have plenty of autonomy and the opportunity to make a visible impact.
- One week you could be developing a new React feature; the next, building a backend service, integrating a payment provider or improving how we remotely manage devices deployed across major venues.
This role would suit someone who enjoys variety, takes ownership of their work and wants to help shape the technology behind a growing international business.
What you’ll be doing:
- Designing, developing and maintaining modern frontend applications
- Building and maintaining backend APIs and services
- Taking new product features from initial concept through to deployment
- Integrating third-party APIs, payment providers and hardware
- Creating scalable, reliable and maintainable software solutions
- Writing clean, well-tested and maintainable code
- Participating in code reviews and technical discussions
- Troubleshooting and resolving production issues
- Improving system performance, reliability and security
- Collaborating with engineering colleagues and the wider business
What we’re looking for:
You’ll ideally have at least three years of commercial software development experience and a strong grounding in modern software engineering. Experience across most of the following would be particularly relevant:
- JavaScript and TypeScript
- React or another modern frontend framework
- Node.js backend development
- REST API design and development
- SQL databases
- HTML5 and CSS3
- Git
- Object-oriented programming
- Testing, debugging and problem-solving
- Clear and confident communication
You don’t need to tick every box. Strong engineering fundamentals, curiosity and the ability to learn quickly are more important than experience with every part of our stack.
It would be great if you also have experience with:
- AWS
- PostgreSQL
- Docker
- AWS Lambda or other serverless technologies
- Firebase
- CI/CD pipelines
- GitHub Actions
- Android development using Kotlin or Java
- Python
- Infrastructure as Code
- Linux
- OAuth, JWT and application security
- WebSockets or real-time applications
- Payment integrations
- Microservices
What you could work on:
Our engineering challenges are varied and closely connected to products operating in live, real-world environments. Projects may include:
- AI-powered data analysis
- Android kiosk software
- Cloud APIs and backend platforms
- Real-time data processing
- Payment provider integrations
- Hardware and device integrations
- Remote device management
- Internal operational tools
- Performance, security and reliability improvements
Our current technology stack:
Our technology ecosystem currently includes: React | TypeScript | Node.js | AWS | PostgreSQL | Firebase | Docker | GitHub Actions | REST APIs | Kotlin | Java
You won’t need experience with everything on this list. We value strong software engineering fundamentals and a willingness to broaden your skills.
About you:
You’ll enjoy this role if you:
- Like solving challenging technical problems
- Take ownership rather than waiting to be directed
- Can work independently while collaborating effectively
- Care about writing clean, maintainable and well-tested code
- Take a pragmatic approach to software development
- Enjoy learning new technologies
- Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical colleagues
- Are comfortable working in a fast-moving scale-up
- Want your work to have a clear and visible impact
Why join Boxbar?
You’ll be joining a growing technology business where software connects directly with physical products used in some of the world’s most exciting live environments. You’ll have autonomy, technical variety and the opportunity to influence how our products and platforms evolve as we continue to scale internationally. This is an opportunity to work across the stack, take meaningful ownership and build technology that solves genuine operational and customer problems.
