Glasgow Film Theatre is looking for friendly, reliable, and customer-focused individuals to join our Front of House team.
As a Front of House Operative, you’ll play a key role in creating a welcoming and enjoyable environment for all our audience members. Working primarily in our bar area, you will deliver high standards of service, ensuring every guest feels valued, well looked after and has a brilliant experience at GFT.

This temporary position will run from 4 November through to 11 March and is designed to support our busiest annual period, including Christmas, New Year and the Glasgow Film Festival.
This job description describes the principal purpose and main elements of the role at this time. It is a guide to the nature of the main duties as they currently exist but is not intended to be exhaustive. The post holder is expected to work flexibly and respond positively to changing business needs and may be required to perform duties outside of this as operationally required by or at the discretion of the Duty Manager or Senior Front of House Manager.
The role involves working in our team of Front of House Operatives who work in a busy and bustling environment within the GFT bar. The cinema is open seven days a week with regular special events and other activities taking place within the cinema spaces.
Front of House Operatives are the welcoming face of GFT. They are required to serve a range of snacks, hot, cold and alcoholic drinks while maintaining high levels of cleanliness in all areas of the bar.
During quieter periods, other tasks are required, including restocking and cleaning of the areas, which are carried out by all staff according to our cleaning/monitoring schedule.
Although predominantly working across our bars, the post-holder may also assist with customer-facing tasks including queue management, ticket sales, ticket checking and assisting Glasgow Film’s Volunteer ushering team during busy periods.
Our Front of House staff must have great interpersonal skills and be able to work well in a small team. We expect our staff to be capable of giving excellent customer service and be of a positive and pleasant nature when dealing with all people.
Our cinema staff are aware of the importance of maximising sales and income generation through box office and bar sales.
Experience of cash handling and customer service are also highly desirable.
Job duties:
- Guest service
- Stock control & stock rotation
- Cleaning all areas of the bar
- Preparing and serving coffee and other drinks
- Assisting volunteer ushers when required, including cleaning in the cinemas.
- Any other reasonable duties as requested by the Duty Manager and Senior Operations Manager.
- Ensuring that no action is taken that could threaten the health or safety of themselves, other employees, customers or members of the public.
- Ensuring that equipment, which may be issued for protection because of the nature of a job, is used at all appropriate times. Failure to do so could be a contravention of health and safety responsibilities.
- Reporting of all accidents and injuries at work, no matter how minor, to first aiders.
- You may be trained in Door duties upon successful completion of your probationary period.

Person Specification:
Knowledge
- An understanding and consideration of the needs of our diverse audiences

- Desirable: Personal licence for the serving of alcohol
Experience
- Experience of cash handling and good numeracy skills
- Experience of preparing coffee and a variety of alcoholic drinks
- Experience of working in a cafe or bar environment
- Desirable: Experience of floor and queue management
