Freelance: 2 days per week (flexible on which days)
Job location: Hybrid, London office (1 day per week in office)
Contract: Initial 3-month engagement, with a view to an ongoing rolling arrangement
Cinematik is an independent UK company rooted in cinema. They connect audiences with independent and alternative film screenings, and work with filmmakers, distributors and venues to help great films find their audience.
Alongside the core Cinematik platform, they’re building a small family of brands:
- Cinematik: one platform for your whole campaign, every tool in one place: listings,
ticketing, marketing and analytics. - Eido: live performance on the big screen: opera, ballet, concerts and stage productions in cinemas nationwide, a considered programme for audiences who come for the thrill of the front row.
- A new film club: launching soon (currently unnamed), bringing audiences together around curated screenings and events. You’d be in at the very start, helping shape its voice and build its audience from day one.
The role
Cinematik are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Social Media Executive with a focus on delivery to take day-to-day ownership of the social presence across their three brands. This is a varied, hands-on freelance role: two days a week, with genuine flexibility around which days you work (some weeks may flex around screenings, events and the film club launch).
You’ll work directly with the Cinematik team, with real scope to shape how their brands show up in culture — this isn’t a “post and forget” role.
Additionally, Cinematik are looking for the successful candidate to build and deliver the social media campaign for a theatrical film release which will be out in cinemas in October.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day management of social channels for our three brands: Cinematik, Eido, and the new film club (Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn primarily; Facebook, X and YouTube as needed).
- Own the content calendar across all three brands, planning and scheduling posts via tools such as Later, Buffer or Hootsuite.
- Generate new content ideas and put together social content plans for campaigns, screenings and the film club launch.
- Conceptualise campaigns and design high-level creatives — taking ideas from first spark through to polished assets that set the visual direction across our brands.
- Create and edit social assets — short-form video (Reels, TikToks, Stories), stills and simple design tasks.
- Attend Cinematik screenings and events in London to capture content for socials, including vox-pops with attendees.
- Community management: replying to comments and DMs in each brand’s voice.
- Build the community engagement strategy across our channels and handle sensitive escalations with care and good judgement.
- Support the naming, launch and audience-building of the new film club — a rare chance to build a brand’s social presence from zero.
- Pull and interpret channel analytics (reach, engagement, follower growth) and produce a simple monthly performance report with recommendations.
- Keep Cinematik’s brand channels up to date, including the website and LinkedIn.
- Watch out for relevant film, entertainment and platform trends to share with the team.
Ad-hoc
- Contribute to partner and venue outreach with guidance from the team.
- Support on occasional pitch and reporting documents.
- Light admin connected to the above.
- 1–2 years’ experience in a social media or content creation role.
- Based in London (or able to travel in easily) for one day a week at the London office, plus attendance at London screenings/events.
- Passionate about film, cinema-going and live performance (opera, ballet, concerts on screen), with a finger on the pulse of pop culture and platform trends.
- Strong knowledge of social platforms, particularly Instagram and TikTok, including platform-native formats (Reels, Stories, carousels).
- Strong content creation experience, including shooting simple photo/video on a phone and editing video for socials (proficient in CapCut, Premiere Pro or similar).
- Proficient in Canva and Adobe Photoshop, or similar.
- Experience with scheduling/publishing tools (e.g. Later, Buffer, Hootsuite or Sprout Social) and maintaining a content calendar.
- Comfortable with native platform analytics and simple reporting in Google Sheets.
- Strong copywriting skills and the ability to write in three distinct brand voices.
- Working knowledge of UK ad disclosure rules (ASA/CAP, #ad) and accessibility basics (alt text, captions on video).
- Highly organised and self-managing — as a two-day-a-week freelancer you’ll set your own deadlines and meet them, and know what needs sign-off before it goes live.
- An eye for what looks great (and what doesn’t!).
- Positive, collaborative and professional way of working.
- Experience working with agencies, brands, film, cinemas or event cinema.
- Experience launching a new brand or channel from scratch.
- Experience in SEO and/or writing for the web.
Their offer
- A flexible two-day week that fits around your other work – Cinematik are happy to flex days around your schedule and ours.
- Free cinema tickets to Cinematik screenings and events (naturally).
- A front-row seat on a new film club launch, with real creative input.
