Reports To: Outpatients team Lead based in Yorkshire (must have transport or be based close to locations for the commute)

  • 1 x HCA Pontefract 19 hrs
  • 1 x HCA Thorpe Park 28.5 hrs

PURPOSE

The health care worker is a member of the care team appointed to support the registered healthcare professional in the delivery of direct patient care. The role involves contact on a physical and psychological level with patients and their families. The post holder will undertake a range of activities under the supervision of a healthcare professional, having been assessed and deemed competent in the activities required.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support registered nursing staff and consultants in the implementation of an agreed plan of care with the patient and in accordance with instructions and training received per local and national policies and guidelines including JAG.
  • Help promote and maintain an environment conducive to meeting the needs of the patient/relatives and carers.
  • Support the endoscopy team with decontamination of scopes.
  • Support with auditing and stock checks and management as required.
  • Set up of the room and preparation of all clinical areas in line with service requirements.
  • Contribute to a team approach to patient care in conjunction with all members of the team.
  • Contribute to the legality and accuracy of the patients care plan and/or other reports and the effectiveness of the established communication/reporting system.
  • Participate in regular meetings and attend other meetings as requested.
  • Undertake tasks and procedures, in which competency has been assessed and recorded specific to the care environment.
  • Assist in the maintenance of stock levels.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the clinic cleanliness and tidiness and always adhere to infection control policy and procedures.
  • Receive and convey information from telephone or personal enquiries in a courteous manner and ensure all persons visiting the clinic are greeted and assisted in a welcoming and supportive manner.
  • Assist and support registered nurses and clerical staff in administrative duties as required.
  • Support each unit by cross-site working where there is a service requirement.

Training

This role will have access to internal and external training courses. Annual appraisals and professional development plans will be conducted annually.

Ongoing Support

This role will have the support of an outpatients team lead nurse and the service manager. They will also work closely with the clinical team.
