We have an exciting opportunity available for an experienced Leisure and Commercial Venues Manager to manage a first-class multi-site facility based in Lancashire. This role will suit a dynamic and analytical manager who has previous experience in the leisure industry.

Role Summary

  • To manage the continuous development, improvement and success of our Leisure Centre and all commercial venues through effective planning, budget management, staff management and governance.
  • Ensure the Leisure Centre and all commercial venues are as financially sustainable as possible by maximising income opportunities.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Services business plan working in partnership with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Overall responsibility and accountability for the commercial management of the 5 venues, ensuring effective and efficient use of space.
  • Explore and develop all opportunities for income generation through strong stakeholder relationships and the identification of new business opportunities.
  • Work closely with marketing to ensure the maximum success of any targeted marketing strategies.

The Individual

The successful candidate will need to have Pool Plant Operation and understanding of Pwtag guidance on the operation of swimming pools, as well as being an experienced leader who is dynamic, analytical, driven, ambitious, embraces and leads on change, and is commercially minded.

Key Accountabilities

  • Build strong customer relationships across all areas.
  • Provide regular reports to the Chief Officer Environment & Place on business development highlighting individual facilities performance against targets including new business.
  • Assist the Chief Officer in setting new targets which maximise financial performance and reduce operating costs to the Council.
  • Provide quality advice and information to senior managers, Councillors and partners in respect of performance and policy developments related to leisure and events management.
  • Be an ambassador for outstanding customer service and take a lead role in developing customer service standards.
  • Engage in partnership work with external organisations to generate further business opportunities.
  • Support the arts and culture sector by overseeing local festivals and events.
  • Ensure a commercial approach to programming enables rapid response to changes in market demands.
  • Set clear direction and expectations and enable others to interpret competing priorities.
  • Ensure facilities operate to high standards of cleanliness.
  • Implement risk management procedures and practices in line with policies and industry/legislative requirements.
  • Ensure correct working practices and safeguarding considerations are in place for staff.
  • Ensure a planned preventative maintenance programme is in place for all aspects of each facility's plant and equipment.
  • Ensure staff are trained to appropriate standards for their duties.

Primary Objectives

  • Develop a commercial strategy covering all segments and channels to maximise total revenue and profit performance.
  • Drive the planning and execution of the commercial strategy and activity through working closely with all direct reports and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure that commercial management strategies are set for all revenue streams.
  • Lead, coach, develop, recruit and retain future talents.
  • Manage performance, develop and evaluate the commercial team members on the agreed KPIs.
  • Be responsible for driving the budget and forecast by implementing a commercial strategy and business plan.
  • Support and work closely with the central marketing and corporate teams.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Understand and identify current corporate trends.
  • Prepare and submit bids for external funding as opportunities arise.
  • Keep in touch with market trends and review/amend strategies accordingly.
  • Participate in the leadership activity of the service.
