We are a growing SME operating in the construction and civil engineering sector, supporting major infrastructure projects across the UK. We’re looking for a commercially minded People and Culture professional to join us. This is a truly varied role, combining hands‑on HR, end‑to‑end recruitment and operational ISO compliance. You’ll play a key role in shaping our people practices, maintaining high compliance standards and supporting the business as it grows.
The ideal candidate will have strong SME experience, have experience working with ISO frameworks, and bring proven recruitment expertise.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver core HR activities including employee relations, performance management, policies and employment law compliance
- Advise and support line managers on people matters, development and workforce planning
- Promote a positive, inclusive and high-performance culture
- Support HR initiatives linked to organisational change and growth
- Lead end-to-end recruitment: advertising, screening, interviewing, offers and onboarding
- Build and maintain talent pipelines aligned to business needs
- Champion best practice recruitment and candidate experience
- Maintain compliance with ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001
- Prepare for and support external audits and ongoing certification
- Work closely with Health & Safety to ensure alignment between people and operational compliance
- Track and report on HR and compliance metrics, identifying trends and risks
- Maintain accurate records and documentation
- Use HRIS, ATS and compliance systems to streamline processes and improve visibility
- Partner with senior leaders and operational teams to align people and compliance priorities with commercial objectives
- Provide trusted advice to leadership on culture, capability and workforce development
- 3–5+ years’ experience in a similar HR and/or compliance role
- Strong recruitment experience with full lifecycle ownership
- Hands‑on experience with ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 and external audits
- CIPD Level 5 qualified (or working towards) or equivalent experience
- Solid knowledge of UK employment law
- Experience working in an SME environment
- Background in construction, civil engineering, infrastructure or a Tier 2 supplier
- Experience supporting organisational change or HR transformation
- Confident using ATS, HR systems and compliance tools
- Strong Excel and document control skills
- Highly organised, proactive and comfortable managing multiple priorities
- Strong communicator with the confidence to influence at all levels
- Collaborative, adaptable and happy wearing multiple hats
