Purpose of the Job
The primary focus is to create and maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene throughout Bowley International Scout Centre. Ensure that facilities are clean and presentable in good time for guests’ arrival and maintain cleanliness of buildings and common areas. The role also includes some basic maintenance tasks, along with supporting health and safety checks where necessary.
Objectives
- Create and maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness across the centre
- Ensure cleaning supplies are kept to the correct stock levels, and are stored correctly and safely
- Ensure cleaning weekly checks are completed on schedule each week
- Contribute to the maintenance of the COSHH register for all cleaning products ensuring that the necessary staff training is delivered for its safe use
- Assist with ensuring the Health & Safety of the activity centre by working in accordance with our Risk Assessments and Standing Operating Procedures
- Support the General Manager by carrying out fire alarm and emergency lighting checks
- Carry out basic maintenance tasks as and when needed
- Ensure the Scout Association’s Health & Safety, Child Protection, Religious, Equal Opportunities and Anti-Bullying Policies are adhered to at all times
- Show a commitment to the Vision, Mission and Strategic Aims and Policies of the Activity Centre and strive to maintain these through personal conduct and effective relationships with colleagues, volunteers and guests.
- Contribute to the continuous growth and development of Bowley by bringing new ideas to the Activity Centre and the role, which will improve our service, increase efficiency and reduce costs.
Other duties may be required as deemed necessary by the General Manager in view of changing needs/policies of the Activity Centre.
Hours: This post is a part time role with flexible working hours to suit the right candidate. A minimum of 6 hours per week. During our busy periods there may be additional hours available in agreement with the General Manager.

Person Specification
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Practical and flexible approach to work
- Willingness to undertake cleaning, facilities, and basic maintenance tasks
- Willingness to complete required Scouts training
- Previous experience in facilities, caretaking, cleaning, or maintenance
- Basic DIY or maintenance skills
- Experience working in a community, youth, or visitor-focused environment
Additional Information
The role is 6 hours per week, with additional hours available during busy periods, including weekends and school holidays. Some flexibility will be required to meet the operational needs of the centre. Appointment is subject to appropriate Scouts checks, which will include a DBS check, and any mandatory Scouts training.
