Practice nursing experience desirable but not required. To assist medical personnel in the care of practice patients to include treatment, preventative care, screening and patient education.
Main duties of the job:
- You will be responsible for offering all general practice nursing services including chronic disease management reviews, prevention and screening duties, contraception services and general investigative procedures.
Job responsibilities:
- 18-24 hours permanent role.
- You will be well supported within the general practice nursing team and provided with adequate training to meet the responsibilities outlined below.
Main responsibilities include:
- Performance of chronic disease management reviews
- Facilitate investigations such as venepuncture, spirometry and 12-lead ECGs
- Perform cervical cytology screening
- Routine immunisations
- Childhood immunisations
- Participate in activities to promote healthy lifestyles
- Improve uptake of screening services
- Administration of intramuscular injections such as B12 or depot contraceptive
- Contraception and HRT reviews
- Maintain accurate medical records
- Ordering and maintain practice stock of medical equipment
- Attend and participate in practice meetings and Primary Care team meetings
- Participate in quality improvement work
- Facilitate teaching and training of staff
- Complete annual performance review
- Complete home visits where appropriate
- Chaperone and assist in minor surgery and contraceptive services (IUD/implants)
Person Specification:
Qualifications:- Registered General Nurse
- Current NMC registration
- Completion of cervical cytology smear taker course
- Relevant diploma or qualification in practice nursing
- Driving licence
- Experience of working within a nursing team
- Experience of working in a GP practice
- Experience of using EMIS
- Chronic disease management experience
- Understanding of clinical governance
- Understanding of QoF
- Long term condition management
- Vaccination and immunisation experience
