We are searching for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Junior Design Engineer / Middleweight Design Engineer for a successful Mechanical Design and Engineering business based in North Devon. This role is offered on a hybrid working basis and therefore you MUST live within a commutable distance of Barnstaple, Appledore, Bideford, Ilfracombe, Great Torrington or South Molton to be considered for the position. During your probation period you will be required to work in the office at least 4 days per week hence the need to be based near to the office or within a 30-to-45-minute commute. Our ideal candidate will be a second or third jobber looking to take the next step in their design career β you will ideally have a minimum of 3 to 4 years commercial experience. In this role you are going to be responsible for designing specialist packaging solutions used by clients who operate in the Aerospace/Defence sectors transporting and storing high value and critical equipment. On a daily basis you will be using CAD software to design bespoke solutions for your customers. Experience in Creo / Creo 3D / PTC Creo is highly desired β we are however completely open to speaking with candidates who have expertise in the use of other 3D CAD software, including, SolidWorks , CATIA , AutoCAD (or similar) as our client is very happy to provide you with cross-training to help transition over to Creo. This role will involve working closely with a wide-range of stakeholders including, Project Managers, Production Teams, Sales Managers and various external customers to develop and optimise designs that meet complex customer requirements. In this role you will be responsible for: Design and Development Collaboration Client Interaction Quality Assurance Problem Solving Documentation Continuous Improvement Required Skills & Experience Experience: Experience working in a Mechanical Design and/or Engineering role. Mechanical Engineering qualification such as a Degree, HND, or similar, or equivalent commercial experience. CAD Expertise: Proficient in 3D CAD software (e.g. Creo, SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD or similar). Experience with Creo is preferred, but cross-training will be provided for the right candidate. Creation of manufacturing drawings, from single sheet to large assemblies. Technical Skills: Understanding of engineering principles, materials and manufacturing processes. Ability to interpret technical requirements and demonstrate compliance through design work. Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and address design challenges effectively, ensuring the robustness and feasibility of designs. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with clients, suppliers, and team members effectively.
