A consistently profitable business in Newport has created a new role and is recruiting for an Assistant Accountant on a permanent basis. The company is a leading manufacturer of sophisticated products for use across a range of industries with an innovative culture, always exploring ways to improve and drive efficiencies. Based in their advanced manufacturing facility, this role is crucial to providing insight financial reports, developing models and business partnering.

Assistant Accountant duties

  • Assist with preparation and management of department budgets, reviewing spend and analysing variance.
  • Help prepare monthly forecast and close, including accruals, and analysing actual results to forecast and reconciliations.
  • Planning, forecasting and analysing direct and indirect costs, reporting to various internal budget holders.
  • Produce monthly and quarterly management reports for senior management.
  • Work with non-financial colleagues to review budget and costs.
  • Data input for forecasting and planning, ensuring accuracy across various systems.

Assistant Accountant person specification

  • Proven experience working in a similar role with high level analytical skills.
  • Excellent academic background with evidence of professional studies being either AAT qualified or ACCA/CIMA part qualified.
  • Technically astute with a keen eye for detail, able to interpret and analyse high volume of data.
  • Proficient in accounting software systems with strong Microsoft Excel ability.
  • Self-driven, results-oriented, fast learner and can work independently.
  • Able to thrive in a changing environment, prioritising various requests.
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable working across departments and levels of seniority.
