The Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Business Manager. This is a hands-on, varied role requiring both strategic oversight and practical day-to-day management across multiple areas of the business.

You will also be expected to take responsibility for:

  • Accounts and budget tracking
  • Health & Safety compliance and reporting
  • Office management and administrative oversight
  • Recruitment and onboarding of staff
  • Oversight of IT systems and operational technology
  • Business development and client relationship building
  • Implementing and maintaining management systems
  • Site setup and operational readiness
  • Staff supervision and performance management
  • Organising and managing meetings
  • Acting as a personal assistant to senior leadership where required

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all operational aspects of civil projects, including resource allocation, scheduling, cost control, and quality assurance.
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure smooth and efficient project execution.
  • Implement and maintain operational processes, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Monitor progress, anticipate challenges, and implement solutions to keep projects on track.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, environmental standards, and health & safety requirements.
  • Oversee procurement activities, manage supplier relationships, and ensure cost efficiency.
  • Provide operational and performance reports to senior management, contributing to business strategy and planning.

About You

  • Proven track record in operational management within the civil engineering or heavy civils sector.
  • Broad skill set covering accounts, H&S, office management, recruitment, IT systems, communication, leadership, business development, management systems, site setup, staff management, and meeting coordination.
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction methods, and project delivery best practices.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects under tight deadlines.
  • Full UK driving licence is essential.
