Job Title: Operations Manager Location: Manchester Salary: £ Negotiable About the Company Our client is a long-established, family-owned civil engineering and infrastructure contractor with over 15 years\’ experience delivering projects ranging from £100,000 to £11 million. They operate across sectors including highways, industrial, education, health, rail, and energy, with capabilities spanning civil engineering, groundworks, FRC works, earthworks, and external works. Known for their technical excellence, innovation, and on-time delivery, they have built a strong reputation as a trusted partner within the construction industry. The Role Our client is seeking an experienced Operations Manager. This is a hands-on, varied role requiring both strategic oversight and practical day-to-day management across multiple areas of the business. You will also be expected to take responsibility for: Accounts and budget tracking Health & Safety compliance and reporting Office management and administrative oversight Recruitment and onboarding of staff Oversight of IT systems and operational technology Business development and client relationship building Implementing and maintaining management systems Site setup and operational readiness Staff supervision and performance management Organising and managing meetings Acting as a personal assistant to senior leadership where required Key Responsibilities Lead and manage all operational aspects of civil projects, including resource allocation, scheduling, cost control, and quality assurance. Work closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure smooth and efficient project execution. Implement and maintain operational processes, procedures, and safety standards. Monitor progress, anticipate challenges, and implement solutions to keep projects on track. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, environmental standards, and health & safety requirements. Oversee procurement activities, manage supplier relationships, and ensure cost efficiency. Provide operational and performance reports to senior management, contributing to business strategy and planning. About You Proven track record in operational management within the civil engineering or heavy civils sector. Broad skill set covering accounts, H&S, office management, recruitment, IT systems, communication, leadership, business development, management systems, site setup, staff management, and meeting coordination. Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction methods, and project delivery best practices. Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire teams. Ability to manage multiple complex projects under tight deadlines. Full UK driving licence is essential.
