We are currently recruiting for a Digital Construction Manager for our Private Sector, based in London. The key responsibility of the Digital Construction Manager is to ensure the BIM, digital and information activities are conducted in compliance with our ways of working and our customer’s needs. They will be responsible for providing technical and operational support, together with production, quality, operational/site management support and managing costs whilst creating a supportive and collaborative environment, meeting client expectations and enhancing the reputation of our construction business.
Key Responsibilities
- Across projects within role scope, develop and maintain project BIM strategy based on the clients Information Requirements which is to include creating the post-contract BIM Execution Plan (BEP), and other required BIM requirements.
- Together with the client team, assist in developing the project’s digital handover strategy.
- Maintain an understanding of industry standards such as ISO 19650 series and alike.
- Accountable for the implementation and compliance with all Bovis safety requirements across staff, contractors and work practices ensuring appropriate records are maintained and required reports are available.
- Recognise and reward safe behaviours and practices.
- Provide leadership in establishing our BIM, and information management processes with project teams.
- Manage the BIM and information management delivery within a timely manner to ensure the maximum outcomes for the client and Bovis.
- Implement Bovis’ digital strategy to effectively manage BIM and Information management on projects.
- Ensure quality is at a consistently high level and pro-actively identify quality issues.
- Review and assist commercial teams with costs and controls associated with our BIM and information management strategy.
- Build and maintain external relationships (e.g. clients, contractors/subcontracts) to increase networks and manage the performance and development of the project team through coaching, mentoring and building required skill sets to ensure that staff are adequately resourced to perform.
- Coordinate with planning team to ensure BIM and Information deliverables are aligned to project programme milestone submission dates.
- Consultant appointments – Work closely with our Construction team and help them to appoint consultants with appropriate BIM obligations as part of their appointment contracts including BIM capability assessments of the project team.
- Subcontractor appointment – Work closely with our construction team and help them appoint subcontractors with appropriate BIM scopes as part of their appointment contracts including BIM capability assessment of the project team.
- Implementing BIM – Enforce project BIM strategy, 3D/BIM coordination workflows and BEP across the project team and police it on a regular basis to ensure that the project’s BIM is developed progressively in the required format.
- Audit – At key milestone submission dates review and audit of the project BIM and prepare audit reports for project team leaders.
- Meetings – Chair internal and external BIM meetings as BIM Lead for the project.
- Reporting – Regular reporting of the project BIM activities to internal and external stakeholders.
- Visualisation - Manage/deliver appropriate visuals to team members when needed to support their task or scope of work.
- Training – Assess BIM training requirements and deliver required BIM training either using internal or external training providers.
- Design - Work closely with the respective design teams to ensure that Bovis needs have been understood and incorporated.
- Interrogate the design information being developed for incorporation into the PIM to ensure that it is robust, in the appropriate format and of sufficient quality for acceptance.
- Safety - Support the H&S effort through the model functionality to support safety initiatives on the project.
- Logistics – Work closely with our internal construction team and help planning and construction teams to optimise site logistics through the use of model information.
- Clash Management - Interrogate appointed teams' information models to identify any potential design clashes between task teams ensuring that it is logged within the issues register for tracking and resolution.
- Quantity Take-off – Work closely with internal cost planning and estimating teams and help link model quantities to cost plans and estimates.
- Commercial - Create and capture evidence of BIM values which influence the commercial outcomes on the project. Extract data from the model to contribute directly to support monthly reporting.
- Procurement - Interface with and support the procurement team to package work scopes for inquiry including trade specific BIM scope of works for appointments as well as BIM capability assessment forms etc.
- 4D - Interface with the internal planning team to help create construction sequencing the virtual build of the project through various phases incorporating site wide logistics etc.
- Asset Management – Collaborate with the client’s appointed asset management team and produce an Asset Information Model at handover ensuring all required asset data has successfully been delivered.
- Sustainability - Assist with delivering data requirements embedded within task team’s information models to achieve the client’s sustainability targets.
- Information Management - Closely collaborate with the project’s Information Manager to ensure that project information is controlled and distributed to the project team members through the CDE.
Credentials
- Professional Construction Qualifications relevant to the role (BSc or MSc in Project Management or Building / Construction Studies or Engineering).
- Appropriate CSCS card for the role.
- Have a related Chartership such as CIOB.
Skills
- Demonstrate an ability to lead coordination between task team’s information models.
- Management and mentoring of staff and development of digital skills.
- Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively and advise the construction delivery team.
- Develop and maintain relationships with trust and confidence.
- Demonstrate an ability to ensure delivery of work packages and in places betterment of commercial targets.
Knowledge
- Excellent knowledge of ISO 19650 series and related standards.
- Expert knowledge of construction.
- First-hand knowledge/experience of authoring and coordination platforms such as Autodesk Design Suite.
- First-hand knowledge/experience with validation tools such as Solibri.
- An in-depth knowledge of the construction process and construction methods.
- Knowledge of current construction laws, legislations, and regulations, standards and procedures.
- Understanding of programme duration and sequencing of works of relevant aspects of construction.
Experience
- Has a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role in construction or delivery teams.
- Proven track record of digitally delivering successful construction projects.
- Experience of dealing with clients, contractors and construction activities.
- Pre-construction and site establishment experience.
