Overview
Construction Manager role at Bovis (Gloucester area) supporting the Defence Estate Optimisation programme on the Imjin project. The role involves planning, on-site leadership, coordinating contractors, ensuring safety, quality, and delivery aligned with the construction programme.
Responsibilities
- Support planning and logistics phasing of all projects.
- Preconstruction development of the programme; scoping and project controls setup including delivery management systems and online quality control systems.
- Develop an Incident and Injury Free climate on site and in the supply chain; ensure health and safety obligations, processes and procedures are allocated to and delivered by the construction operations team.
- Supervise, direct and monitor day-to-day operations on site; coordinate contractors to deliver the construction programme, detail, and required quality.
- Monitor progress of works and adapt methodology to unforeseen circumstances to achieve completion dates safely.
- Plan and monitor Environmental Management Plan adherence and contractor performance.
- Participate in team meetings to communicate changes affecting safety, methodology or logistics.
- Review build quality with the team to ensure contract requirements are met.
- Consider buildability during procurement and manage prelims related to safety, logistics and environmental risks.
- Produce a schedule of statutory authorities and manage engagement/notifications as required.
- Assist the Project/Assistant Manager to coordinate meetings with all contractors to ensure awareness of latest design information (instructions, RFIs, etc.).
- Pre-plan and develop site safety strategy, including logistics.
- With contractors, prepare short-term programmes linked to longer-term deliverables for week-ahead planning.
- Communicate and monitor safe delivery against weekly plans.
- Provide leadership, foster teamwork, and contribute to the development of colleagues on the project.
- Develop delivery metrics for key trades packages and report on actual delivery outputs with the construction management team.
- Ensure construction operations processes and procedures are adhered to.
Experience & background
- Technical construction/engineering skills
- Strong organisational skills
- Extensive knowledge of operational safety systems
- Understanding of site management principles
- Written and verbal communication to influence and build relationships
- Ability to influence and lead teams
- Experience in logistics planning and multi-phase implementations
- SMSTS β 5 days
- Ideally CIOB or equivalent professional membership
