A core responsibility of this role is the management of Oracle’s quarterly update cycle: from impact assessment and regression testing through to go-live sign-off and post-update validation. You will be the first point of escalation for incidents and changes across Finance, Commercial, Procurement, and HR, working closely with the Managed Service Provider (MSP) and internal stakeholders to maintain system integrity and drive adoption.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oracle Fusion Configuration
    • Own and deliver functional configuration across Oracle Fusion ERP (GL, AP, AR, Fixed Assets, Projects/Costing) and HCM (Core HR, Absence, Organisation Structures, Payroll interfaces), including setups, profile options, flex fields, lookups, value sets, and workflow approval rules.
    • Translate business requirements from Finance, Commercial, HR, and Procurement into functional designs, configuration specifications, and testable user stories.
    • Maintain a configuration register documenting all setups, change decisions, and rationale to support audit readiness and knowledge continuity.
    • Champion standard Oracle functionality over customisation; document justification where deviations are approved.
  • Project Delivery
    • Contribute to Oracle Fusion enhancement projects and new module implementations, covering functional design, SIT/UAT planning, defect management, cutover, and post-go-live support.
    • Prioritise the change backlog with Finance, HR, Commercial, and IT stakeholders, balancing BAU stability with continuous improvement.
  • Quarterly Update Management
    • Act as the primary owner of Oracle’s quarterly update lifecycle, managing the full cycle from Oracle release notes through to post-update stabilisation.
    • Produce and maintain an update calendar aligned to Oracle’s published schedule; co‑coordinate sandbox environment refreshes and testing windows with IT and business stakeholders.
    • Conduct impact assessments for each quarterly release, identifying configuration, integration, and reporting changes that may affect live operations.
    • Lead and document regression testing across key finance cycles (P2P, O2C, R2R, Fixed Assets, Project Costing/CVR inputs) and HCM processes.
    • Manage go‑live readiness sign‑off, stakeholder communications, and post‑update hyper‑care, including rapid triage of any defects introduced by the update.
  • Integrations & Data Quality
    • Scope, document, and maintain integrations via Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) across HR, Finance, procurement, supplier portals, bank feeds, payroll, and BW/BI reporting feeds.
    • Own interface controls and monitoring; proactively identify and remediate data defects, reconciliation breaks, and mapping errors before they impact business users.
    • Maintain data standards and reference data for projects, cost codes, suppliers, and workforce records; enforce data governance and lifecycle management policies (including GDPR and retention requirements).
  • Incident Management & Business Support
    • Provide 2nd‑line functional support and triage for Oracle Fusion incidents and change requests; manage Oracle Service Requests (SRs) through to resolution.
    • Act as the primary liaison with the Managed Service Provider (MSP) for day‑to‑day fixes, enhancements, and release validation.
    • Support period close, month‑end, and year‑end processes; champion best‑practice configuration for CVR discipline, budgeting/forecasting, commitment control, and WIP management. Ensure clear, timely communications to end users on system changes, incidents, and planned‑maintenance windows.
  • Governance, Controls & Compliance
    • Maintain configuration logs, change records, testing evidence, and release notes in line with change management and audit requirements.
    • Partner with Finance Controls and Internal Audit on access management, Segregation of Duties (SoD), approval hierarchies, and year‑end audit readiness. Uphold data governance, ownership standards, and GDPR‑compliant data lifecycle management.
  • Training & User Adoption
    • Produce user guides, quick reference cards, and knowledge articles for end users and super users across ERP and HCM.
    • Deliver “what’s changing” briefings ahead of quarterly updates and process improvements, ensuring readiness across Finance, HR, and Commercial teams.
    • Promote adoption of standard functionality and support the continuous improvement backlog in partnership with business stakeholders.
    • Help bring up team capability in Oracle by upskilling existing resource.
    • Support OTBI, BI Publisher, Smart View/Excel model development and validation for month‑end packs and operational dashboards.
    • Validate reporting impacts post‑update and ensure data lineage is understood and documented.

Essential skills, experience and capabilities

  • Proven hands‑on functional configuration experience with Oracle Fusion Cloud, covering at least two of: Financials, Projects, Procurement, or HCM.
  • Proven, direct experience managing Oracle’s quarterly update cycle: impact assessment, regression testing, stakeholder communications, and go‑live sign‑off.
  • Strong understanding of core finance processes: P2P, O2C, R2R, Fixed Assets, Project Costing, and period close.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering Oracle HCM configuration (Core HR, Absence, Org Structures, or Payroll interfaces).
  • Ability to translate business requirements into functional designs and testable user stories without requiring deep technical/developer support.
  • Experience working with a Managed Service Provider (MSP) model: raising and tracking Oracle SRs, managing escalations, validating fixes.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; comfortable diagnosing data defects, reconciliation breaks, and integration failures.
  • Excellent communication skills — able to present technical issues clearly to non‑technical Finance and HR stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable application of ITIL principles in a support and change management environment.
  • Experience in the construction sector, with working knowledge of CVR (Cost Value Reconciliation), CIS, subcontractor flows, retentions, and applications & certifications.
  • Familiarity with Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) for integration scoping and monitoring.
  • Experience with OTBI, BI Publisher, or Smart View reporting.
  • Oracle Fusion implementation or consulting background (exposure to multiple full project lifecycles preferred).
  • Oracle Fusion certification(s) in Financials, HCM, or related modules.
  • Experience with Inoapps ICC or similar construction‑specific Oracle extensions.

How to prepare for a job interview at Bovis Group

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Know the Business Impact of IT Solutions

Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
