We are seeking a talented and driven Construction Manager to oversee the internal fit‑out phase of the iconic Manchester Town Hall project. This role is pivotal in our Public Sector Projects department, offering an opportunity to make a significant impact on the city's heritage. The Construction Manager will be responsible for guiding the project towards a seamless handover, ensuring the fit‑out meets the highest standards and adheres to the project's design and timeline. This is a chance to contribute to a landmark project and leave a lasting legacy.

You will be responsible for site coordination, liaising with the base and managing subcontractors. The Construction Manager will assist pulling together logistics phase plans and support scope writing and package planning and procurement activities on the project. You will ensure the job is built in a safe and productive manner and will apply programme and budget controls ensuring that minimum requirements are observed, company procedures are followed, and our client’s objectives are delivered.

Key responsibilities:

  • Key member of the construction delivery team with collective responsibility for the safety of all site operations.
  • Review and adjudicate safe working methods and method statements.
  • Monitor health & safety documentation and complete safety inspections.
  • Ensure all contractors are implementing method statements and operating safely.
  • Direct the construction work to ensure that all supply chain contractors are coordinated and working to the construction programme and detail.
  • Monitor the progress of construction works and amend the methodology in light of unforeseen circumstances to ensure that overall completion dates are met.
  • Develop and implement a clear plan of action to achieve the above.
  • Constantly review the build quality achieved with the team ensuring that the client’s requirements in this regard are fully met.
  • Keep an accurate construction daily diary of all notable issues and events on site including resources, weather, stoppages, incidents and the like.
  • Take lead responsibility for the management of the site engineering and surveying package and ensure attendance by the contractor on a regular and sufficient basis.
  • Take lead responsibility for the ITP and QA process and ensure that all contractors are aware of their obligations and that they are adequately complying with the Bovis systems and procedures.

Essential Credentials:

  • Appropriate CSCS card for the role.
  • Professional Construction Qualifications relevant to the role.
  • SMSTS – 5 Day.
  • Have, or be working towards, a related Chartership such as CIOB.

Essential Skills:

  • Written and verbal communication to influence and build relationships.
  • Ability to read and understand programmes, design drawings and details, project scopes and specifications.

Essential Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the construction process and construction methods including operational safety systems.
  • Knowledge of current construction laws, legislations, and regulations, standards and procedures.
  • Commercial and financial understanding in the above context – ability to contribute to value engineering as part of the design process.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience in construction, including a sound knowledge of construction methodology, process and sequence.
  • Pre-construction and site establishment experience.
  • Background in design, construction & delivery process including technical construction/engineering skill with a main contractor on projects above £30m in value.
  • Proven track record of delivering successful construction projects safely.
  • Experience of managing field construction activities on major/complex projects.
