An opportunity has arisen to join Bovey Tracey and Chudleigh Practice; who have an excellent reputation as friendly, hardworking and high achieving accredited training practices. We are currently looking for a full time or part-time Pharmacy Technician to join our clinical team, working alongside a Clinical Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician and Prescription Clerk.
Job Summary
The role will provide an essential part of our pharmacy team, working with clinicians and nursing team, and in collaboration with other members of the Practice multidisciplinary teams.
Main duties of the job
- Manage the repeat prescription process, resolving queries, and reducing medication wastage.
- Contribute to Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) targets, NICE implementation, and clinical audits.
- Work alongside GPs and clinical pharmacists to safely manage prescribing tasks, allowing doctors to focus on complex cases.
- Assist with medication safety audits, ensuring compliance with legal standards, and reviewing medication safety alerts (e.g. MHRA).
- Provide medicines expertise to patients and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Promote self-care and educate service users to allow them to be empowered to make informed choices about treatment.
- Work collaboratively and build relations with community pharmacy, secondary care and intermediate care teams.

Job details:
Base: Riverside Surgery, Bovey Tracey and Tower House Surgery, Chudleigh. Will need to travel and work at both surgeries (one surgery each day).
Clinical Pharmacy in General Practice is part of an exciting transformation programme to develop a new model of care, addressing our ambition to deliver person‑centred, coordinated care across the practice population.
GP practice technicians work within a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, based within a GP practice, and support the delivery of safe, effective and efficient systems for medicines optimisation, repeat prescribing, reducing medicine waste and maximising patient outcomes.
As a GP practice pharmacy technician, you will receive ongoing training and development about all aspects of practice‑based prescribing and effective administration and will support the practice in providing medication reviews and achieving Quality and Outcomes Framework targets.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
CLINICAL
- Support the daily preparation of repeat prescriptions to ensure high quality, safe and timely repeat prescribing.
- Provide supervision, training, and professional leadership to the practices administrative staff.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with patients on the telephone, electronically or face to face.
- Update patients medical records in an accurate and timely manner.
- Support systems to review medication usage and synchronisation of medication supplies.
- Respond to medication queries from patients and staff (include medication related triage) and action as appropriate in accordance with practice protocols.
- Build and improve the working relationships with the local Community Pharmacy teams, secondary care and intermediate care teams.
- Support initiatives for antimicrobial stewardship.
- Help plan, develop and support the introduction of new working processes within the practices to optimise the quality of prescribing.
- Take a proactive approach to the safe handling of prescriptions, including assessment of risk and making recommendations for improvement.
- Provide support for practices to action drug alerts.
- Provide advice to GPs, staff, and patients in changes to prescribing in order to support the improvement of prescribing safety, quality and cost effectiveness.
- Assist in the appropriate monitoring and achievement of the annual Medicine Optimisation targets.
- Provide medication review services to patients via clinics in the Practices, domiciliary visits and in residential and nursing homes.
CLINICAL GOVERNANCE
- Participate in the clinical governance requirements within the Practice.
- Practice within the parameters of Practice policies, protocols and guidelines.
- Participate in quality improvement within the practice as necessary.
- Ensure they follow Health and Safety legislation and COSHH regulations, reporting any breaches as necessary.
CONTINUED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & LEARNING
- Maintain clinical knowledge and practice to standards of capabilities and competencies expected of the position.
- Participate in the ongoing clinical supervision framework and individual professional development for clinicians within the Practice.
- Be involved in ongoing education within the practice; to support and provide training to staff members.
PROFESSIONAL
- Effectively manage own time, workload and resources.
- Demonstrate highly effective communication skills with patients, carers, practice colleagues and other healthcare professionals and groups.
- Lead by action and inspire others; to promote confidence and trust in patients and uphold the reputation and image of the Practice.
ADMINISTRATION
- Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the Practice team.
- Ensure appropriate expenses are made accurately and submitted via Practice Index.
- Postholder has a legal responsibility to comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

- Good level of education.
