Job Purpose
To provide assistance to the Senior Technical Managers & Design Managers to help them deliver design & technical information on a bid or project; from prequalification to completion with emphasis on preconstruction (generally, but not limited to, the RIBA Plan of Work Stages 3 to 6/BSRIA BG6 Stages 3-7).
Skills Profile
- Qualification degree level (or NVQ equivalent) in a construction related subject or relevant experience
- Experience within the design / technical department of MEP Consultancy or Main / MEP Contractor
- Design Process, Design Management, Procurement, Offsite Manufacturing, Preconstruction and Delivery in the construction industry
- Experience in the current statutory requirements in respect of the construction industry e.g. Building Regulations and the Approved Documents, Building Safety Act
- Principles of the RIBA Plan of Work/BSRIA BG6
- CDM 2015 Regulations, and other Health and Safety and environmental legislation
- Experience covering knowledge of MEP materials, systems, methods and technology
- Design and Technical risk management
- Building Performance, BIM & digital engineering
Main Accountabilities
- Engage and develop relationships with our MEP Consultants and Designers
- Input to MEP Consultant, BIM Coordinator and CDP Specialist Designer appointments
- Monitor and manage the progress of our MEP Consultants, BIM Coordinators and CDP designers
- Undertake technical reviews of designs produced by our MEP Consultants, BIM Coordinators and CDP designers, ensuring best value compliant designs are produced.
- Validate / Technically approve significant plant and equipment selections or specialist CDP sub‑contractor selection and designs
- Identify and manage technical risks and opportunities
- Drive a ‘Designing for Safety’ approach within our design teams
- Ensure ‘Wellbeing and Environment’ is always considered within our designs
- Develop value engineering and value management proposals and undertake the management and integration of these within our designs
- Verify the site installation against the design
- Provide troubleshooting support to significant technical and commissioning issues
- Promote the BYUK policies and Key Values and function as a role model in demonstrating behaviours
