The Civil Works Alliance are recruiting a Senior Estimator for our Marine and Tunnelling team, to take a lead role on one of the UK's most nationally significant infrastructure programmes - Sizewell C. You’ll bring strategic commercial thinking, technical depth and the leadership experience needed to help shape a project that will deliver clean, reliable energy to 6 million homes for the next 60 years. This is a senior commercial position with real influence.

As a key contributor to the wider estimating and commercial strategy, you’ll be responsible for building robust, transparent cost models that inform major decisions across planning, design, procurement and delivery. You’ll engage directly with senior stakeholders across the alliance and client organisation, presenting and negotiating complex estimates that will underpin one of the most complex infrastructure projects in the UK. This is an opportunity to lead from the front - not just in terms of technical delivery, but also in mentoring the next generation of estimating talent and driving best practice across the programme.

Key Accountabilities

  • Leading on high-value, first-principles estimates for major work packages, aligned with SZC's strategic estimating approach.
  • Interrogating design proposals, identifying risks and commercial opportunities, and shaping value-driven outcomes.
  • Overseeing inputs across planning, procurement, commercial and delivery to produce coherent, assured pricing submissions.
  • Acting as a senior point of contact for internal and external assurance, commercial reviews and client discussions.
  • Building estimating models using Candy and Cost X, and aligning deliverables to AACE estimating class principles.
  • Supporting the ongoing development of estimating frameworks, governance and cost maturity across the alliance.
  • Coaching, mentoring and developing junior team members, and contributing to capability building across the function.

Experience And Competencies Required

You’ll have a strong track record delivering complex estimates for major civil or infrastructure projects, ideally in a Tier 1 contractor environment, and be fully confident working in a collaborative, multi-partner setting. You're commercially sharp, methodical, and experienced in aligning estimates with programme-level risk, delivery strategy and schedule. You're also comfortable representing estimating at a senior level - whether that's influencing procurement direction or supporting stakeholder assurance. Experience with Candy, Cost X, and AACE estimating classifications is highly desirable, and professional chartership (e.g. RICS, CICES, ICE, CIOB) is a strong advantage.

This is a rare opportunity to help shape a legacy project that will transform how we power the UK. You’ll be joining a delivery team backed by the collective strength of Balfour Beatty, Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O'Rourke, bringing together world-class expertise with a shared purpose.

Location: Sizewell C Project Office - London or Suffolk, with hybrid working supported.
