About The Role
Senior Electrical Plant Manager – responsible for leading the temporary works electrical function on a major UK infrastructure project delivered through an Alliance.
The role encompasses planning, design, installation, operation and management of temporary electrical systems that support large‑scale construction activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Temporary Works Electrical function across the project.
- Develop and implement electrical strategies, procedures and standards aligned with the wider Alliance delivery model.
- Oversee the design, installation, commissioning and operation of temporary HV and LV electrical distribution systems.
- Manage site-wide temporary power, lighting, emergency lighting, earthing and electrical protection systems.
- Forecast temporary power requirements and manage electrical asset deployment throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate electrical requirements with project teams, subcontractors, designers and suppliers.
- Manage electrical material supply chains and ensure effective procurement and delivery.
- Develop project schedules, resource plans and budgets for electrical works.
- Lead, develop and mentor the electrical team, ensuring high standards of performance and compliance.
- Monitor programme progress, identify risks and implement solutions to maintain project delivery.
- Ensure all electrical works comply with relevant legislation, standards, procedures and permits.
- Implement and maintain Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), Permit to Work (PTW) processes and electrical isolation procedures.
- Undertake Senior Authorised Person (SAP) responsibilities, including control of isolations and energisation activities.
- Carry out site inspections, identify hazards and drive continuous improvement in health, safety and environmental performance.
- Produce regular progress reports, forecasts and performance updates for project leadership.
- Support sustainability initiatives and promote innovation and best practice across the electrical function.
About You
You are an experienced electrical leader with a strong background in delivering temporary electrical infrastructure on major UK civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
You combine technical expertise with strong leadership, planning and stakeholder management skills.
Essential Experience
- Experience managing electrical teams on large UK civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of temporary electrical installations, HV/LV distribution and construction power systems.
- Demonstrated leadership and people management capability.
- Experience managing multiple stakeholders, contractors and suppliers.
- Strong planning, organisational and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
- Commitment to the highest standards of health, safety and quality.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within nuclear or other highly regulated environments.
- Experience working on Joint Ventures or Alliance delivery models.
- Experience managing electrical works across multiple major infrastructure projects.
- Major UK construction project experience.
Essential Qualifications
- Authorised Person (AP).
- CSCS PQP Card or CSCS Black Managers Card.
- SMSTS or IOSH Managing Safely.
- Relevant electrical qualification.
Desirable Qualifications
- Higher National Diploma (HND) Level 4 or Level 5 in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (or equivalent).
