The Civil Works Alliance (CWA) are recruiting for an exceptional opportunity supporting the delivery of Sizewell C – a 3.2-gigawatt power station set to supply clean, reliable electricity to around 6 million homes for at least the next 60 years.
As we help shape the UK’s energy future through this critical national infrastructure project, we are seeking an accomplished Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) Lead to join our Enabling and Earthworks stream – a role essential to achieving our project milestones. - Lead a team of HSW professionals, offering expert guidance and hands‑on support to operational teams across all stages of construction.
- Champion the implementation of our HSW strategy, ensuring full compliance with legal and project obligations.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels, providing both strategic leadership and practical solutions.
- Collaborate with HR to drive recruitment and support team development.
- Undertake regular compliance evaluations, audits, and site tours to guarantee safety and assurance.
- Respond swiftly and effectively to events, leading investigations and reporting outcomes to both project and parent companies.
- Deliver training and advisory sessions to operational teams and Tier 2 contractors, fostering a culture of safety excellence and continuous improvement.
- Support the drive towards Zero Harm by promoting robust reporting and learning from incidents.
- Liaise with regulators, including ONR, and develop proactive working relationships.
- Encourage the adoption of lessons learned, supporting knowledge‑sharing across the project and wider alliance.
What you will bring:
- A proven record of leading and managing teams within major infrastructure projects.
- Deep technical expertise in health and safety legislation, regulation, and best practice.
- Demonstrable experience supporting both operational and functional teams at a senior level.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence and inspire a positive safety culture.
- High proficiency in accident and incident investigation, with the skills to report and analyse data.
- Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Manager competence.
- Chartered Member of IOSH (or actively working towards this).
- NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 6 in Occupational Health and Safety.
