The Role:
The BMJV Ecology Manager is responsible for the co-ordination and management of all ecological input to contract. They will manage the activities of sub-contractors and the site-based Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) team and additional ecology resources required on site. Responsibility for the input into and production of construction phase documents, ecological method statements/risk assessments and protected species mitigation strategies. Ecology reporting, monitoring ecology compliance and undertaking inspections, providing advice to the site production teams regarding ecological constraints and mitigation, tool-box talks, watching briefs and design implementation for habitat creation/site re-instatement works and to ensure compliance with the soil resource plan.
Key Responsibilities:
- Co-ordination and management of the site-based Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) team and additional ecology resources;
- Project/package management of subcontractors working on habitat and landscape management;
- Input into and production of construction phase documents and overseeing, in conjunction with the Head of Environment & Sustainability, the delivery of all measures detailed in the Site-Specific Environmental Management Plans and supporting method statements;
- Production and review of ecological method statements/risk assessments and protected species mitigation strategies and implementation;
- Site checks for protected and notable species;
- Ecological surveys prior to site clearance;
- Investigating and reporting on ecological incidents;
- Liaising with the ALIGN's core environment & sustainability and project management teams;
- Reviewing ECoW reporting and ecological appraisals;
- Production and delivery of tool-box talks to the production team and sub-contractors;
- Liaising with stakeholders and local authorities as required;
- Undertaking other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- A degree qualification in ecology or related field;
- Extensive experience which demonstrates applied knowledge of ecological and environmental procedures and compliance in the construction environment;
- Capable of supervising ecology/ECoW teams and contractors;
- Ability to manage a challenging workload subject to change at short notice;
- Producing ecological appraisals, method statements/risk assessments and protected species mitigation strategies;
- Ensuring compliance with protected species licence requirements and environmental protection measures;
- Delivery of habitat creation/site re-institution works;
- Broad experience of multiple environmental disciplines;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- High standard of computer literacy;
- Confidence and experience to challenge designs/methodology prepared by others;
- Fully aware of regulatory, legislative and company requirements;
- Full membership of CIEEM (or working towards).
