Bouygues Energies & Services (part of Equans) has a fantastic opportunity available for aSite Construction Engineer – Production Preparation to be based at the Hinkley Point C site in Bridgwater.
We have been awarded a Turn-key EPC contract for the Hinkley Point C (HPC) new-build nuclear power plant Emergency Diesel Generators. The role offers a unique opportunity for an electrical or mechanical engineer to work on one of the most exciting projects out there!
Job Purpose:
To play a key role in ensuring that construction activities are executed safely, compliantly, and efficiently within a nuclear environment.
This role is focused on preparation and readiness of work packages, materials, documentation, and interfaces necessary for effective field execution, in line with nuclear safety culture and workface planning best practices.
The Role:
- Work Preparation & Planning:
- Prepare detailed Construction Work Packs / Installation Work Packages aligned with the Construction Schedule and Engineering deliverables.
- Translate engineering designs into clear, field-executable plans considering constructability, access, sequencing, and interfacing systems.
- Identify and define tools, materials, equipment, hold points, inspections, and safety requirements for each activity.
- Ensure readiness of all preconditions to work, including permits, quality documents, and risk assessments.
- Nuclear Safety & Compliance:
- Integrate Nuclear Safety Culture principles into all preparation and planning activities.
- Ensure compliance with Foreign Material Exclusion, Quality Control, Configuration Management, and ALARP principles.
- Prepare or review method statements and risk assessments (RAMS) for nuclear safety–related work.
- Coordination & Interfaces:
- Collaborate with Engineering, Construction, Commissioning, Planning, and Supply Chain to manage inputs and constraints.
- Work closely with field supervisors to understand and support execution needs.
- Coordinate with QA/QC and Regulatory teams to ensure inspection and test plans (ITPs) are embedded in the work scope.
- Field Support & Follow-Up:
- Provide first-line technical support during execution to resolve construction issues.
- Monitor and update progress on work package readiness and support recovery planning for delayed activities.
- Participate in walkdowns, readiness reviews, and lessons learned feedback.
- Monitor and analyse internal project perturbations (Manufacturing errors and design changes). Quantify additional effort.
About You:
- A mechanical and/or electrical engineer with relevant qualifications and experience.
- Knowledge of general installation (including diesel engines and generators).
- Experience working on major M&E erection/installation projects (heavy regulated industries experience preferred).
