The Role
As Methods Lead, you will be responsible for developing safe, efficient and practical construction methodologies for major reinforced concrete civil engineering works.
Working closely with designers, construction teams and specialist subcontractors, you will ensure buildability is embedded throughout the project lifecycle.
You will champion innovative construction techniques, support constructability reviews and provide technical leadership across the project while fostering a culture of collaboration and engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of Methods and Digital Engineers.
- Develop construction methodologies, sequencing and detailed method statements (RAMS) for complex civil engineering works.
- Champion Safe by Design principles and engineered safety throughout the project.
- Drive constructability reviews, value engineering studies and construction innovation.
- Develop practical solutions including prefabrication, bespoke formwork and alternative construction methodologies.
- Produce sketches, methodology drawings and 3D visualisations to support construction planning.
- Collaborate with design teams to ensure construction constraints are understood and incorporated into engineering solutions.
- Work closely with construction, commercial, procurement, planning, HSE and temporary works teams to deliver integrated solutions.
- Capture and share lessons learned and best practice across the wider business.
- Support continuous improvement in construction methods and digital engineering.
About You
You are an experienced civil engineering professional with a passion for solving complex construction challenges and improving how major infrastructure projects are delivered.
You thrive in collaborative environments, enjoy leading technical teams and have the confidence to engage with stakeholders at every level.
Essential
- Extensive experience in methods engineering within major civil engineering projects.
- Experience working for a principal contractor on large infrastructure schemes.
- Strong understanding of reinforced concrete construction, reinforcement prefabrication and connection systems.
- Experience producing construction methodologies and RAMS.
- Ability to lead technical workshops and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Competent CAD skills.
- Experience using Revit and Navisworks to support construction planning and visualisation.
- Experience using digital collaboration and document management platforms.
Desirable
- Temporary works knowledge, including formwork and falsework.
- Reinforcement installation experience.
- Craneage and lifting methodology experience.
- Experience of concrete prefabrication techniques.
- Knowledge of health, safety and environmental requirements on major construction projects.
- Experience with Asite.
- Membership of a recognised professional institution, such as the Institution of Civil Engineers.
- Experience within the power or nuclear sectors.
