The Electrical HV SAP is responsible for the safe planning, control, and execution of high-voltage electrical operations up to 33kV. The role ensures compliance with safety rules, legislation, and company procedures, acting as the senior duty holder for HV systems. The post holder will also manage site safety under SMSTS responsibilities, coordinating contractors, permits, and site activities.
Key Responsibilities- High Voltage (HV) Duties
- Act as Senior Authorised Person (SAP) under company HV safety rules.
- Control, operate, and manage HV networks up to 33kV.
- Issue and cancel Safety Documents (PTW, Sanction for Test, Limitations of Access).
- Carry out HV switching operations and prepare switching schedules.
- Ensure isolation, earthing, and proving dead of HV systems.
- Manage and supervise Authorised Persons (AP) and Competent Persons (CP).
- Liaise with DNO/IDNO/ICP where required.
- Ensure compliance with ENA, HSG, Electricity at Work Regulations, and company safety rules.
- Site Management (SMSTS)
- Manage site safety for electrical works in line with SMSTS responsibilities.
- Plan and coordinate electrical works in line with Construction Phase Plans.
- Conduct site inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
- Oversee subcontractors and ensure compliance with H&S legislation.
- Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations 2015.
- Investigate incidents and near misses relating to electrical activities.
- Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all electrical and construction safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate HV logs, switching records, and permits.
- Carry out audits and inspections.
- Lead emergency response for electrical incidents.
- Promote a strong safety culture across site.
- Technical & Operational
- Review electrical drawings, single line diagrams, and schematics.
- Support commissioning and energisation activities.
- Provide technical guidance to engineers and site teams.
- Assist with fault diagnosis and system restoration.
- Experience with Precast carousel installation, fault finding & maintenance.
- Experience with PLC fault finding and instrumentation.
- Experience with installation and fault finding of concrete batching plants.
- Experience with gantry crane fault finding and maintenance.
- Senior Authorised Person (SAP) – High Voltage (up to 33kV).
- SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme).
- ECS Gold Card (Electrotechnical Certification Scheme).
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
- City & Guilds / HNC / HND in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- In-date First Aid at Work.
- Significant experience in HV electrical environments.
- Proven experience operating as an HV SAP up to 33kV.
- Experience managing electrical works on live construction or operational sites.
- Expert knowledge of HV systems up to 33kV and safety rules.
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
- Excellent understanding of electrical legislation and CDM.
- Ability to produce and interpret technical documentation.
- Strong communication with engineers, clients, and network operators.
- Calm under pressure in emergency situations.
