Organisation Information: Bouygues Travaux Publics (TP) and Laing O’Rourke, two of Europe’s most dynamic engineering and construction specialists, are working together in a joint venture named BYLOR to deliver the main civil engineering works at Hinkley Point C (HPC) worth over £2.8 billion. Bylor are pushing the boundaries of innovation and modern technology while delivering high quality construction on a massive scale.

Purpose of the role: The Digital Engineer will manage and coordinate construction data for secondary steelworks installation on the HPC Nuclear Island, ensuring accurate, timely information is available to support delivery, quality, and decision making through tools such as Qlik dashboards. They will help align information with site execution and support clear visibility of progress constraints.

Key responsibilities and specific accountabilities:

  • The resource will maintain basic configuration and change control, support progress reporting and ensure key installation and quality data is captured to support handover.
  • Overall the role enables better coordination, improved data driven decision making, and more efficient delivery through reliable digital information.
  • The role requires a combination of digital engineering, construction delivery, and data analytics.
  • The resource will have strong experience in construction data management and reporting tools such as Qlik, alongside the ability to structure and interpret complex construction and engineering data to support performance reporting, progress tracking and decision making.
  • The resource will need a strong understanding of construction sequences and installation activities.
  • It is essential to have a good combination of advanced data reporting and practical delivery awareness.

Data extraction and dashboard maintenance:

  • Keep relevant dashboards correct and up to date to ensure management and leadership can make data driven decisions.

Technology implementation and process improvement:

  • Keep up to date with industry developments, standards, processes, and technology.
  • Propose and develop process improvements based on digital technology.
  • Test and trial new technology working together with engineering teams.
  • Write documentation for digital processes for approval.

Supporting engineering teams:

  • Work closely with the site engineering teams to support them to work digitally.
  • Train others on the usage of digital tools, on desktop and mobile devices.
  • Respond to one-off requests to deliver specific data, information, and outputs.
  • Support the Digital Engineering lead with the thorough project protocols set-up and implementation based on project standards.

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Experience of civil engineering on large complex projects.
  • 2+ years’ experience.
  • HND in Engineering or above - preferred.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to present to team and co-workers.
