Role Overview
The role is a paid live‑in, part‑time, fixed‑term position from September 2026 to June 2027, based in a BU‑managed hall of residence.
Purpose of Role
The role contributes to the delivery of activities and events that enhance the student experience, encourage participation, and support social connections and life skills. ResLifeBU Assistants actively engage with students living in their designated halls, creating inclusive, welcoming communities and supporting transition to university life.
Key Tasks
- Deliver social and community‑building activities for students living in university accommodation.
- Collaborate with SUBU staff, accommodation teams, and other university stakeholders to encourage participation.
- Attend and support events to ensure a positive, welcoming student experience.
- Promote ResLifeBU activities through social, print media, noticeboards, and word of mouth.
- Create content for relevant social media platforms.
- Engage proactively with students, encouraging positive relationships and activity participation.
- Model positive behaviour and promote respectful community standards.
- Support student arrivals during arrival weekends, welcoming new residents and signposting them to services.
- Attend line‑manager meetings for consistency of practice and information sharing.
- Complete required paperwork and record‑keeping accurately.
- Report accidents, incidents, or concerns per Health and Safety procedures.
- Act as a visible presence, raising welfare concerns with appropriate teams, escalating disciplinary issues to halls management when required.
- Attend mandatory training sessions and engage with ongoing development and feedback.
Person Specification
- Current full‑time undergraduate or postgraduate student at Bournemouth University.
- Understanding of issues related to communal living.
- Experience supporting and running events, activities, or initiatives.
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements, including risk assessments for events.
- At least one year living in university‑managed accommodation.
- Experience in a pastoral or similar student/young people role.
- Knowledge of SUBU and Bournemouth University.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, persuading, motivating, and organising others.
- Senior outlook, reliable and flexible.
- DBS check required (cost covered by SUBU).
Accommodation Requirement
The ResLifeBU Assistants are required to live in BU's halls of residence to effectively perform the role.
