About the role
We are looking for an organised, proactive, and student-focused Placement Compliance Officer to join our Employability & Skills Service. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting the University’s placement provision and enhancing the student experience through effective placement administration, compliance, and operational support. The role will directly contribute to the University’s strategic ambition to increase the number of students undertaking placements and gaining valuable industry experience.
As Placement Compliance Officer, you will oversee the efficient management of placement approval and compliance processes, ensuring placements meet University policies, safeguarding expectations, health and safety standards, and UKVI regulations where applicable. You will work closely with Placement Coaches, academic colleagues, employers, and wider professional services teams to ensure students receive timely guidance and support throughout their placement journey. The role requires someone who is highly organised, detail-oriented, and confident managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
You will act as a key point of contact for placement-related enquiries, maintain accurate records and online resources, monitor regulatory compliance requirements, and support continuous improvement across placement processes.
We are particularly interested in candidates who:
- Have strong administrative and organisational skills
- Can manage complex processes with accuracy and attention to detail
- Are confident communicating with students, staff, and external organisations
- Can interpret and apply policies and regulatory requirements
- Are comfortable working independently while contributing positively to a wider team
- Have experience working in higher education, student services, compliance, administration, or employability-related environments (desirable)

- Placement approvals and due diligence checks
- UKVI placement monitoring and reporting
- DBS processing and safeguarding compliance
- Managing placement enquiries and communications
- Maintaining placement resources and records
- Supporting placement allocation and operational administration
- Contributing to student-facing events and drop-in support
You will join a supportive and forward-thinking team committed to enhancing student employability, opportunity, and success.
This position does not meet the eligibility requirements for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker Route within the UK Visa and Immigration service’s Points Based System. Therefore, BU will not be able to sponsor individuals who require permission to work to carry out this position.
