Starting salary for this role is £39,152 (pro rata for part‑time colleagues). This role sits within a well‑defined pay band, offering clear progression as you grow your career at BCP. All new starters begin at the entry point of the band, ensuring fairness and consistency across the organisation.
We are seeking a qualified Environmental Health Officer to join our dedicated Environmental Health Team. Our team is dedicated to protecting public health through proactive and reactive work programmes, focusing on food hygiene, health and safety, and infectious disease control.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct food hygiene inspections as part of our food inspections programme.
- Investigate complaints related to food safety, food hygiene, foodborne illness, workplace health and safety, and accidents.
- Work closely with an experienced team of officers to deliver an excellent regulatory service, including work across other disciplines such as port health work at the border control post, commercial nuisance and planning.
- Participate in a wide range of projects covering food hygiene, health and safety, infectious diseases, port health work, and commercial nuisance, including some out of hours and/on‑call working.
- Degree in Environmental Health.
- Completed Environmental Health Practitioner Portfolio or equivalent.
- Advanced and in‑depth knowledge of relevant Environmental Health legislation and regulatory frameworks.
- Advanced knowledge of inspection, investigation and testing procedures.
- Knowledge of PACE and RIPA legislation.
- Experience of conducting investigations and inspections in the relevant regulatory function and specialism.
- Experience of conducting interviews under caution and undertaking complex enforcement activity.
- Ability to plan and organise time effectively over several cases and investigations.
- Ability to communicate and persuade, using evidence and professional expertise to build a persuasive and well‑reasoned case.
- Ability to provide professional advice and translate complex technical information for a range of audiences.
- Thorough knowledge or previous experience in food safety, health and safety, and infectious disease control.
- Approachable manner with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to independently prioritise workload.
- Work alongside an amazing team of knowledgeable, dedicated, and hardworking officers.
- Engage in innovative ways to provide a sustainable environmental health service.
- Contribute to protecting public health and safety.
