Here at Bournemouth & Poole College, we are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Payroll Officer to join our professional college community on a full-time, permanent basis. In return, we offer a competitive salary of £32,228 - £33,191 per annum.

You will be employed through Southern Educational Professional Services Ltd; a subsidiary of the College.

The Payroll Officer Role: As our Payroll Officer, you will support the Payroll Manager with end-to-end payroll processes, ensuring that all salaries, pensions, and deductions are processed accurately and on time, in line with HMRC requirements, pension regulations, and College policies.

Responsibilities as our Payroll Officer will include:

  • Calculate and process three monthly payrolls for teaching and support staff (680 employees)
  • Ensure full compliance with statutory requirements and pension schemes, including Teachers’ Pensions, the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), and NEST
  • Reconcile payroll reports and maintain accurate, auditable payroll records
  • Provide clear, timely, and informed payroll support to colleagues across the college (by email, telephone, and face to face)
  • Assist with Year End HMRC and Pension reconciliations and corresponding audits
  • Collaborate effectively with People and Finance teams to deliver a seamless employee experience
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of payroll processes
  • Undertake other duties within the scope and grade of the post

As our Payroll Officer, you’ll ideally have:

  • Strong attention to detail and confidence working with numerical information
  • Experience in full payroll administration (experience within education is advantageous)
  • Excellent communication skills and a calm, solution-focused approach
  • The ability to work independently while being part of a supportive team

A one-off incentive bonus of up to £2,000 may be awarded upon successful completion of the probation period. The exact amount will be determined at the offer stage, based on the candidate’s skills, experience, and current salary. Eligibility and incentive level will be assessed in relation to the job specification and required skill set. Following successful completion of probation, candidates are required to remain in post for a minimum of 12 months. Early departure will result in full repayment of the incentive.
