Here at Bournemouth & Poole College, we have a position available for aLecturer in Hairdressing on a part -time, permanent basis. In return,you will receive a competitive salary of £30,000 – £39,198 per annum, pro rata (£12,162.16 – £15,891.08 for part time).

A successful candidate that is able to teach over Beauty Therapy and Media Make Up, in addition to Hairdressing could potentially be offered up to a full-time position.

As of August 2025, this role will benefit from a 3% pay award and the salary will rise to £30,900 to £40,374 per annum, pro rata (£12,527.03 – £16,367.84 for part time).

The Lecturer in Hairdressing Role:

As our Lecturer in Hairdressing, you will provide a flexible and responsive approach to students in the training or work place environments and undertake skills development and competence assessment as required. You will work as an integral part of the team where the overall aim will be the development and operation of students learning and assessment.

Responsibilities as our Lecturer in Hairdressing will include:

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of a range of educational programs including identifying learning objectives; determining, designing and producing study material; planning course/study program delivery.
  • Contribute to high quality learning experiences using a variety of teaching and learning methods.
  • Ensure that teaching is based on current best available practice and is consistent with a high standard of practice.
  • Provide academic and pastoral support to students in accordance with agreed procedures.
  • Create an outstanding student experience which leads to progression or employment.
  • Manage student issues within agreed protocols.
  • Undertake such other reasonable duties as the line manager may require from time to time and review this Job Description annually with the line manager.
  • Participate in the College\’s appraisal process and to undertake any training that may be appropriate
  • Take appropriate responsibility to ensure the health and safety of self and others
  • Pursue the achievement and integration of equal opportunities throughout all The College\’s activities

As our Lecturer in Hairdressing, you\’ll ideally have:

  • Level 2 (or equivalent) English and Maths
  • Teaching Qualifications (or evidence of working towards).
  • Level 3 Professional (vocational) qualifications in Hairdressing or Higher
  • Assessor & IQA Awards.
  • Experience of facilitating learning for students in a Further Education setting.
  • Vocational expertise and experience in relative establishments within the hair & barbering industry.
  • Knowledge of current evidence-based practice in field(s) of expertise of hairdressing services.
  • Knowledge of issues relating to equal opportunities and cultural diversity.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to Safeguarding Children and vulnerable adult legislation.
  • Relevant knowledge & expertise of the Hairdressing industry.
  • Evidence of upskilling in latest industry techniques and trends.
