At Bournemouth & Poole College, we know that finances can be one of the barriers to education—and that's where you come in. As our Student Finance Advisor, you'll help students access support through a range of bursaries and options, ensuring they have individualised help to succeed.
What you'll be doing
- Support Students & Families
- Provide clear, personalised advice on bursaries, grants, loans and funding concessions.
- Help students—and sometimes parents/carers—navigate the application process with confidence.
- Manage & Assess Bursary Applications
- Complete initial financial assessments and verify documentation.
- Ensure support funds are awarded fairly, efficiently and in line with College and DfE guidance.
- Coordinate Payments & Reporting
- Work alongside the SEND Manager and Finance Team to ensure timely, accurate payments.
- Maintain detailed records and prepare financial summaries, monitoring spends against budget.
- Assist with internal and external audits to support compliance.
- Collaborate Across the College
- Work with Admissions, Curriculum and Wellbeing teams to ensure students receive the right information at the right time.
- Liaise with external partners—such as Morebus, South West Rail and the Dorset Community Fund—to keep our students supported and informed.
- Drive Continuous Improvement
- Help shape and refine bursary processes based on student feedback.
- Contribute to a high-quality, student-centred financial support service.
What we're looking for
- Level 2 (or equivalent) English and Maths
- Experience in a finance-related and customer-focused role
- Strong administrative and organisational skills
- Confidence using Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- The ability to solve problems within statutory and regulatory guidance
- A calm, compassionate approach—even in a busy environment
