You will be employed through Southern Educational Professional Services Ltd; a subsidiary of the College.
The Role: As our Carbon Reduction & Sustainability Officer, you will be working to facilitate and inspire a culture of sustainability across the college. You will engage with a wide range of internal stakeholders, at all levels, including the Students Union. In addition, the postholder will work with a number of external organisations to identify and share good practice on the implementation of sustainability initiatives.
Responsibilities as our Carbon Reduction & Sustainability Officer:
- Provide technical support to the Sustainability Steering Group on the implementation and delivery of policies, procedures, plans and initiatives to help embed sustainability at the College.
- Contribute to accurate data collection, monitoring and reporting requirements across all impact areas.
- Assist with the development of policies, operational control procedures and guidelines to ensure continual improvement in all areas of environmental management.
- Contribute to the improvement of waste minimisation and recycling regimes.
- Identify and implement other initiatives, encompassing issues such as biodiversity management and ethical food management.
- Contribute to embedding sustainability in the curriculum.
- Work closely with the Student Union, students and staff to support the delivery of sustainability initiatives.
As our Carbon Reduction & Sustainability Officer, you’ll ideally have:
- A degree in a related discipline
- Practical experience of awareness-raising or campaigning on sustainability issues
- Experience of using different communication channels to reach target audiences
- Knowledge and understanding of a wide range of sustainability issues including energy/water/carbon management, waste, transport, biodiversity, ethical procurement, social justice etc.
- Strong skills in data gathering, interpretation, and analysis.
- Be a team player with the ability to work independently.
