We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Air Traffic Control Assistant to support the safe and efficient operation of air traffic services at Bournemouth Airport. Working closely with Air Traffic Controllers and operational teams, you will assist with administrative, communication, and coordination duties in a fast-paced aviation environment. This is a safety-critical role requiring high levels of concentration, accuracy, and communication within a dynamic operational setting. This role is ideal for someone who can remain calm under pressure, communicate clearly, and maintain high levels of accuracy and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Air Traffic Controllers with operational and administrative tasks
- Monitor and maintain flight progress information and operational records
- Coordinate communications across operational departments
- Ensure accurate logging of flight movements and operational incidents
- Monitoring operational systems and reporting issues
- Maintain compliance with aviation safety procedures and regulations
- Assist with routine reporting and documentation
- Respond efficiently to routine operational queries and requests
- Supporting emergency and contingency procedures
- Ensure compliance with applicable UK CAA regulations, safety management systems, and organisational procedures
- Provide accurate and timely weather observations
- Provide an Air Ground service to support the Air Ambulance operation (Out of Hours)
Requirements
- Minimum GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent in English and Mathematics
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- High level of accuracy and concentration
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy under pressure
- Ability to work effectively within a safety-critical environment
- Ability to prioritise tasks in a time-critical environment
- Good teamwork and problem-solving abilities
- Competent IT and administrative skills
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends
- Eligibility to obtain airside security clearance
Desirable
- Previous aviation or operational experience desirable but not essential
- Knowledge of air traffic service operations and aviation terminology
- Familiarity with safety management systems and regulated environments
- Understanding of airport or air traffic control environments
- ROCC qualification (Radio Operator’s Certificate of Competence)
- RMO or Full Met Observer (Restricted Met Observer/Full Met Observer)
Medical and Security Requirements
Appointment to this role will be subject to successful completion of pre-employment screening, airside security clearance, medical assessment where applicable, and right to work verification in the United Kingdom.
