- What You’ll Do
- Support for Pupils
- Under the specific supervision of the class teacher to work with individuals and groups of pupils to deliver learning programmes, taking into account SEN additional requirements where necessary.
- Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher, including physical activities with the pupils.
- Work closely with other professionals and follow their designed programme for individual pupils such as occupational health, speech therapists and physiotherapists.
- Assist with the general pastoral care of pupils, including helping pupils who are unwell, distressed or unsettled and have emotional and behavioural difficulties.
- Assist pupils with personal care needs, including social, health, hygiene and welfare matters and follow agreed local manual handling procedures and prescribed medication programme under guidance.
- Support for the Teacher
- Prepare and maintain basic classroom resources and equipment as directed by the class teacher and assist pupils in their use.
- Prepare the classroom for lessons, ensuring that resources are available and cleared away at the end of the lesson as appropriate.
- Provide regular feedback to teachers and other professionals on pupils’ achievement and progress and on pupil progress in meeting pupil passport targets.
- Administer and mark routine assessments or tests under the guidance of the class teacher and in line with the school’s marking policy.
- Assist with the planning of learning activities.
- Provide general clerical support, e. g. photocopying, laminating, filing, etc., as required.
- Support for the School
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, child protection, health, safety, security, SEN/inclusion and data protection, reporting all concerns to the appropriate named person.
- Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson time but during the school day, within contracted hours, as necessary for their safety.
- Work in an environment where there is a varied intensity of demands from pupils and physical intervention may be needed to ensure safety.
- Plan, prepare and accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out‑of‑school activities within contracted hours as required.
- Lead playground games and sports activities at lunchtime.
- Attend relevant meetings and participate in training opportunities and professional development as required.
- Adhere to school health and safety policy, risk assessment and safety systems.
- Adhere to school policy on equality and diversity.
- Support for the Curriculum
- Assist with the development of basic skills and support their use in learning activities.
- Carry out broadly similar duties commensurate with the level of the post as required by the Headteacher.
