We have an exciting opportunity for a cleaner to join the domestic team of 4 at Boultham Park Medical Practice. Applicants need to be diligent, hardworking and trustworthy and able to follow procedures and instructions. A good work ethic is necessary and the ability to work as part of a team is essential. Full training will be provided and all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) will be supplied. Working hours are 08 hours per week Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, from 05:30am - 07:30am.
Main duties of the job include:
- All high level and low level dusting
- Cleaning of lavatories and basins
- Vacuuming carpeted floors and mopping of clinical floors
- Cleaning of clinical areas, internal windows, and glass panels
- Replenishing product dispensers
- Wiping of window blinds
- Ensuring the National Cleaning Standards are constantly maintained
- Monitoring stock levels and notifying the Practice Manager of any products that need re-ordering
- Ensuring all PPE is available to the domestic team
- Covering for other cleaners during annual leave or sickness
Daily tasks include:
- Vacuuming all areas of the surgery
- Emptying bins and paper shredder into the correctly coloured bags
- Cleaning all sinks and working surfaces
- Cleaning and disinfecting all toilets
- Damp dusting all surfaces
- Tidying rooms ready for use
- Notifying the Practice Manager of any breakages or hazards
- Washing up items in consulting rooms and the Common Room
- Washing floors in treatment/consulting rooms
- Maintaining supplies of cleaning materials
- Disinfecting all patient couches twice weekly
- Turning off lights, setting alarm and locking surgery when leaving
Weekly tasks include:
- Polishing furniture and reception desk
- Cleaning telephones with cleaner provided
- Checking stock of cleaning materials and leaving a note for the Practice Manager
- Cleaning fridge and kitchen cupboards that need attention
- Spot cleaning any carpet stains
- Cleaning brass Doctors name plates at front and back doors
- Removing cobwebs
- Emptying vacuum bag
- Putting rubbish out for collection on correct day
Monthly tasks include:
- High dusting all accessible areas
- De-scaling taps and sinks basins
- Dusting and cleaning skirting boards
- Washing and attempting to remove marks from walls
- Cleaning light switches
The cleaner's role is vital in minimising healthcare associated infection. The cleaner should observe hygiene standards for infection control, using separate cloths for cleaning toilets, sinks, bowls, and surfaces. All cloths should be disinfected between uses and washed daily.
In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with sensitive information. All such information is to be regarded as strictly confidential and may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with practice policies and procedures.
Health and safety responsibilities include using personal security systems, identifying risks, making effective use of training, and ensuring that only approved cleaning substances are used within the practice.
Acting in a way that recognises the importance of people's rights and respecting the privacy, dignity, needs, and beliefs of patients, carers, and colleagues is essential.
The cleaner should be able to communicate effectively with the practice manager to notify of problems, obtain instructions, and request additional supplies.
Qualifications required include good time management and previous experience cleaning in a clinical environment. Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English are necessary to carry out the full range of duties effectively.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and will require a submission for Disclosure to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
