The Role:
Joining our Infrastructure Engineering team is an opportunity to make a significant impact. Your role in designing, constructing, implementing, and supporting our infrastructure and services is crucial. We rely on these systems to deploy our applications to both private and public clouds, and your contribution is essential to our success. This position offers an excellent chance to expand your expertise in various technologies, including physical hardware, hypervisors, hyper-converged clusters, containers, configuration/orchestration tools, and more.
In this role you will be able to quickly gain an understanding of our existing infrastructure and how to maintain it. You will work closely with other members of the Systems/Infrastructure Engineering team located around the world, all helping to keep our infrastructure running smoothly in ten data centers globally.
How you’ll contribute:
- Developing, enhancing, and maintaining core services within our private cloud infrastructure.
- Building your knowledge and understanding of core services and infrastructure and how we can improve.
- Working closely with application, architecture, and platform teams to deliver cutting-edge solutions.
- Increasing the security, stability, and scalability of our core services such as hypervisor management, server provisioning, and server configuration management.
- Developing new pipelines and scripts to improve automation and software delivery.
- Help train and mentor junior members of our team.
- Keep abreast of new technologies and developments that could benefit our team and the wider business.
- Work with the Head of Infrastructure Engineering and other Senior Systems Engineers to develop the technology roadmap and identify opportunities for improvements.
- Manage project timelines and documentation.
- Be part of our regular on-call schedule for out-of-hours support.
- Working independently as well as within our team and with other members of Bottomline.
What will make you successful:
- You have a Bachelor’s degree in computer science/related field or similar work experience.
- Excellent experience with using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) languages such as Ansible, Chef, or Terraform to build, deploy, and maintain systems.
- Advanced knowledge of physical systems including IPMI management and deployment automation.
- Excellent experience with hypervisors and virtual machines.
- Excellent scripting skills in Bash, Python, and/or PowerShell.
- Great analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Strong knowledge of different operating systems.
- You are enthusiastic about learning new technologies and sharing your knowledge with others.
- You enjoy solving complex problems and working to identify solutions to new issues.
- You wish to leave systems and processes better than you found them.
- You have a background in systems administration.
What will help you:
- Experience with hyper-converged clusters such as Nutanix.
- You have experience with public and/or hybrid cloud infrastructure such as AWS and Azure.
- You have built and maintained self-hosted / on-premises Kubernetes clusters.
- You have practical experience with CI/CD tools such as Gitlab, ArgoCD or Jenkins.
- You have good, working knowledge of automation & configuration management systems such as Ansible or Puppet.
