The Role: Bottomline is looking for a Lead SWIFT Operations Engineer to grow with us in a Hybrid work environment out of our London, UK satellite office! This person can work remotely but will be asked to work on occasion out of our London, UK satellite office when needed. This will range from 1-3 days per week to perhaps going several weeks being able to work remotely from home. Working collaboratively with customers, partners, and each other, we achieve a common goal of exceeding customer expectations. As a Lead SWIFT Operations Engineer, you will play a key role in scaling and improving our technical capabilities to drive higher service availability, repeatability, and performance across our SWIFT estate. In collaboration with team members, you will be expected to deliver technical, process and organisational changes and improvements in line with the vision set out above.
The SWIFT Operations team are responsible for the day-to-day running of a suite of SWIFT message processing platforms that are business critical to our customers and pivotal to our growth. The team’s core responsibilities include responding to operational issues, deploying UAT and Production changes, capacity management, and implementing automation and monitoring across the complex technology estate. This team draws on a wide range of technical skills required to operate SWIFT platforms including an expert knowledge of SWIFT Alliance, knowledge of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) principles, and technical capabilities to operate Windows and SQL environments.
The ideal candidate will have real world experience working in a global operation, be fanatical about repeatable process and automation, and understand the challenging choices needed to create scale, resilience, security, and availability. Further, this role requires an individual who is driven to lead a technical team and keen to set an example in their work. They should also be business-savvy individuals who can manage complex situations with stakeholders and clients.
How you’ll contribute:
- Lead SWIFT Operations: Ensure stable, secure, and compliant SWIFT platform operations with high availability.
- Technical Direction: Provide expert guidance on SWIFT components, messaging flows, and complex issue resolution.
- Incident & Problem Management: Drive incident response, root-cause analysis, and continuous service improvement.
- Change & Release Control: Oversee and validate changes, ensuring alignment with internal processes, risk controls, and audit.
- Monitoring & Optimisation: Enhance observability, performance, and reliability through proactive maintenance and improvements.
- Security & Compliance: Enforce SWIFT controls and internal security policies across all operational activities.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with network, security, compliance, and business stakeholders to resolve issues and enable initiatives.
- Agile / Kanban Execution: Organise teamwork through Kanban boards, manage flow, reduce bottlenecks, and ensure steady.
- Documentation & Standards: Maintain clear operational procedures, runbooks, and process documentation.
- Team Coaching: Support skill development, knowledge sharing, and operational excellence within the engineering team.
