Role Outline
Boston University Study Abroad London is seeking a lecturer to redesign and teach a core course in Nutrition and Disease Prevention as part of our Spring 2027 nursing programme for Providence College students.
The new Lecturer will be required to adapt the existing Providence College course, Nutrition and Disease Prevention for delivery in London. Preparatory work will be undertaken during Fall 2026, ahead of the first delivery in Spring 2027.
The Nutrition and Disease Prevention course will run in the Spring semesters from Spring 2027 onwards.
Spring 2027 teaching is due to commence from the week commencing 11 January 2027. The course will be delivered in a 12-week pattern, amounting to 40 classroom contact hours, plus final exam coverage for the course, which will conclude on Friday 23 April 2027.
This is a temporary appointment with the potential to be renewed.
Nutrition and Disease Prevention
This course examines the dynamic relationship between nutrition, lifelong health, and the prevention and management of disease, with particular emphasis on its application to nursing practice. Students develop a scientific foundation in digestion and nutrient absorption, energy metabolism, hydration, the gut microbiome, and the functions of macronutrients, vitamins, and minerals. They learn to evaluate nutritional requirements across the lifespan, interpret food labels, assess energy balance, and make informed food choices that support optimal health, physical activity, recovery, and sustainable weight management.
The course applies these principles to the prevention and management of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, osteoporosis, gastrointestinal and renal disorders, infectious diseases, cancer, and relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S). Food safety, preparation practices, additives, allergens, and the consequences of inadequate or excessive nutrient intake are also examined. Through peer-reviewed research, case studies, nursing and allied-health scenarios, field experiences, and practical dietary-planning activities, students strengthen their ability to evaluate nutrition information and recommend evidence-based strategies for diverse individuals and populations. By the end of the course, students are prepared to integrate nutrition knowledge into patient education, health promotion, disease prevention, and collaborative care.
Required skills and experience
The successful candidate will be a highly skilled, confident, and accomplished lecturer in general, organic, and biochemistry, with a proven track record in innovative, student-centred pedagogy. A PhD in a relevant discipline is required. Applicants should possess excellent cross-cultural communication skills and a strong record of undergraduate teaching, ideally with experience supporting international or Study Abroad students.
Review of applications will begin immediately, with a closing date of Monday 12 October at 9am.
Candidates must have the unrestricted right to work in the UK.
Boston University is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer, committed to increasing the diversity of our faculty. Members of under-represented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
