Position: Student Nurse

Hours/shifts: see details below (Per Diem)

  • 8-hour or 12-hour shifts, available (dependent on unit needs)
  • Day/Night rotation
  • 2 weekend shifts per month required
  • Summer: May 19th through August 29th, up to 32 hours/week available
  • Fall/Spring semester: flexible schedule and/or reduced hours to align with academic demands of student nurses
  • Winter/Spring break schedule: additional hours may be available

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision and guidance of the nursing assistant preceptor, the student is a member of the health care team who assists the professional caregivers in providing quality care to patients. Reports to and is supervised by their preceptor, Clinical Instructor, Registered Nurse/Resource Nurse, Coordinator, and/or Nurse Manager. Works collaboratively with the Registered Nurses/Physicians. Under supervision and/or guidance, the student has the authority to carry out patient care activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under guidance, and/or supervision, functions in the role of Nursing Assistant on the health care team as assigned by the Registered Nurse.
  • Performs work to meet schedules and to facilitate quality team health care to patients.
  • Reports significant observations and patient problems to professional caregivers.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient records and problems.
  • Provides and maintains a clean, orderly, comfortable, and safe patient care area.
  • Performs non-nursing functions which impact and contribute to the quality of patient care as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of all Hospital-related, Medical-staff related, and patient-related data and information.
  • Accountable for observing all Policies and Procedures of the unit, Infection Control, and Medical Center.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • BLS certification required (Basic Life Support cert: American Heart Association)
  • Enrolled in accredited nursing program and current nursing student
  • One completed semester of skills
  • Completed one semester of a clinical rotation
  • Ability to read, speak, write and understand the English language.
  • Ability to complete mathematical computations required to perform tasks.
  • Ability to lift, transfer, and move patients.
